ORIJIN ZERO, why should you try it? image

ORIJIN ZERO, why should you try it?

We all know Coca-Cola and Coca-Cola Zero, well Guinness Nigeria Plc’s Holy Grail Orijin which was originally launched in 2013 has been given a new dimension this month with what is called Orijin Zero. I know you want to dismiss this one as another of those alcoholic experiments gone wrong but i suggest you hold on to that thought until you try it out for yourself. With the original alcoholic drink gaining thumbs up from every consumer and practically overtaking Star lager beer as Nigeria’s favourite drink, everyone wants to have a taste of it, even religious “extremist” and self righteous friends who wouldn’t drink alcohol for some reason or the other.  If that is your case then believe me when i say the new Orijin is just as awesome as the original orijin. This new carbonated beverage just like the original contains 100% natural herb and fruit extracts and is bubbling with the same bitter-sweet goodness Orijin enchanted us with. The carbonated drink comes to go in an attractive can for just 100 naira and is also available in the traditional bottle for us simpler folk for 90 naira.

The Managing Director of Guinness Nigeria Plc, Mr. Peter Ndegwa had this to say about Orijin zero: “At Guinness Nigeria, we are known for our consistency in delivering great brands with ground-breaking innovations that gives our consumers unique experiences. Orijin Zero is a brand that is positioned to redefine the experience in the carbonated beverage market as it is masterfully crafted …to re-awaken consumers to “rethink their soft drink”.

Having tried out this new Orijin, i can guarantee you it’s worth the price. You can take my word for it. Grab one today and rethink your soft drink.

How To Get The Best Prices While Shopping In The Nigerian Market image

How To Get The Best Prices While Shopping In The Nigerian Market

Parents get the best deals while shopping and it’s no surprise; they really do understand the marketers from their years doing business them.

Mothers go really reckless with their “pricing” but still end up getting their way. The last time i tried that, i was chased away with a mop-stick. That prompted me to look into the Nigerian market and how to get the best out of these marketers. If you are a person like me who wouldn’t shop at expensive stores with fixed prices but would rather shop the traditional way where you have a say in how much you spend, here are a few helpful tips.

  1. Find out before hand: Always try to find out how much your item costs before proceeding to the market. Of course you should carry along extra cash but this gives you an idea of how much you are likely to spend.
  2. Don’t start the conversation in English: This sounds silly but really does determine how the seller perceives you. Speaking in your local dialect can be a helper especially if the seller speaks the same language. It creates a friendly and warm environment to do business.
  3. Be careful with your beat-down price: When a seller gives the price of an item, the next thing to do is to suggest a counter offer i call the “beat-down” price. This is the most important phase of any transaction. It should be a price low enough to avoid being swindled and high enough to still be considered a serious buyer.
  4. Better too low than too high: While suggesting a counter offer, remember it’s better to go low and run the risk of being insulted than going high which could mean going higher than the originally intended selling price of the seller. Knowing this is important; the counter offer sets a marker as a price you cannot go less than during the “pricing” that follows.
  5. Be a reckless pricer: If there is anything shopping with your mother teaches, it’s that persistence pays. Don’t be ashamed to go as much as 10 rounds with the seller. If he calls an amount, call yours... go back and forth... better to waste time than money.
  6. Lie if you must: You could say you already got a better deal somewhere else and that store wasn’t the first you visited that day.
  7. Take your money elsewhere: Whether or not the seller agrees a suitable price, it’s always good to move around to find out what the average cost of the item is. If at the end of the day, he calls a price you think is a bit over the edge, hit him with the “let me check another store” stun gun.
  8. Be patient: If the first two or three sellers don’t help your case, have some patience, shopping takes time and strategy if you’re planning to go home happy. Check around some more, there is always that seller not doing so good and would settle for any patronage.
  9. Don’t be scared to check back: After a few stops, compare the prices you got at various stores. Do not be scared to check back even if the cheapest amount you got was the first.
  10. Collect their contact and promise to be back: This gives the impression that you are going to be a frequent customer and that they shouldn’t be scared to make a loss now, after all you’ll be giving them several other opportunities.

Every Man's Guide To Watch Selection image

Every Man's Guide To Watch Selection

With almost everyone owning a smart phone and/or a smartwatch, wearing a wristwatch could seem pointless... at least from a utility standpoint. Nonetheless, it goes without saying that you cannot complete the gentleman look without sporting a wristwatch. Unfortunately, matching the right wristwatch with the right occasion can prove a difficult task but that is why you have us, i guess.

THE METAL WATCH

This is the everyday watch; every man should have one of these as they are ideal for work, hangouts with friends and even a late night out with your significant other. The metal watch goes well with any formal or semi-formal outfit and shimmers day or night. In terms of colour picking, this is your pick as it goes really good with any outfit colour.

It is usually advised to go with the ones that weigh less, they are a lot easier on the hand and tend to cost less. Suggested brands include Casio, Hublot, Seiko and Rado.

THE SPORT WATCH WITH RUBBER STRAP

This belongs in a very peculiar class and could be worn on a Friday at work, at the gym, hangouts and when having fun or being active in general. The rubber sport watch wouldn’t be any good on a formal outfit and wouldn’t make any sense on traditional attire either and so should be limited to casual outings.

One particular characteristic of the rubber watch is its durability which makes it ideal for fun events. Suggested brands include Casio, Diesel and U.S. Polo Assn.

THE LEATHER WATCH

My personal favourite and pick of the bunch by the NG fashion experts: The leather watch stands out in every outfit be it formal, casual or even traditional attire. The leather watch oozes style and sophistication and can be worn to work, hangouts or quick trip to the barber or the grocery store.

The leather watch is known for its light weight and usually comes in black or brown strap; the black strap for a modern sharp appearance and the brown for a vintage look. We recommend leather watches with missing numbers on the clock face for a more sophisticated look.

Leather watches are usually high-end and so for the sake of clarity, we’ll have to draw a thin line.

Affordable: The Fifth Tribeca, Curren.

Splurge: Patek Philippe, Rolex, Omega, TAG Heuer.

THE RING WATCH

These are not too common but they could come in handy if you’re trying to recreate a proper vintage look or trying to impress that girl or dressing up as Jidenna for Halloween. They wouldn’t blend smoothly with the usual formal outfit but would go well if you’ve got the whole Jidenna thing happening with the walking stick and multicoloured suit. From a traditional attire standpoint, this is a must have.

THE POCKET WATCH

If you’re going to be appearing wearing a 3-piece suit to that function and hope to turn heads, then you probably should get yourself a pocket watch. This is the gentleman’s ultimate symbol and as such should be kept out of sight except you’re going for that elegant prince charming look.

The first known pocket watch came to be in 1675 when King Charles II of England introduced a new concept of waistcoats that featured pockets perfectly designed to fit most pocket watches. Despite pocket watches existing prior to 1675, they were normally worn outside of the pocket due to sharp edges of the pockets. While originally intended for women to wear, the pocket watch has indeed become the “gentleman’s timepiece” and has such should be worn only when you’re deciding to go all out with the gentleman look.

Uru Eke’s Attempt At Producing Fails To Pack A Punch image

Uru Eke’s Attempt At Producing Fails To Pack A Punch

Remember me tells the story of Harida a young woman who has an uncanny gift of foreseeing events that are going to happen. In the wake of mysterious events taking place in her life, her husband David who works for a multinational organisation stumbles upon some incriminating evidence on one of the company’s projects involving an illegal land deal in the boarders of Cameroon, this spins off into a series of events that tests Harida’s gift and has her risking her own life.

The story practically attempts to do an exposition on corruption in ‘high places’ and the length they will go in hiding their mess. Uru Eke’s first attempt at producing has good intentions but a good number of things didn’t seem to play out properly. Izu Ojukwu the ace director of Alero’s Symphony was the able D for this picture and he just seemed to overlook certain basics, the scene where a frightened and screaming Harida (Uru Eke) saw those vultures or whatever the poor visual effects aimed to deliver in her room and Martin (Eyinna Nwigwe) came in to support her, as opposed to what is expected, he kept his stare on Harida all through even though she kept looking at a direction that screamed danger, he was supposed to have being conscious of the direction and the character  and the scene where Harida and Michael Tamuno (O.C Ukeje) were on the run and had to hide initially, for people running for dear lives, they should have at least had their voices lower and should have appeared more like people who just escaped death, since the aim of movie making is believability at its core. The acting didn’t  impress honestly, with David (Femi Jacobs) who plays Harida’s husband practically re-enacting his role as Mr M from the meeting and Uru Eke failing to emote enough as one will expect from someone who just lost two key persons in her life and O.C Ukeje’s character Michael was an extension of the Confusion na wa guy with no pidgin, his scruffiness not adding any value to the fact he was supposed to be an  investigative journalist, this could get him an AMAA and AMVCA nomination since he is favourite to those awards for anything. Among the cast Eyinna Nwigwe, Chigurl and Anthony Monjaro stood out in the portrayals of their characters. The cinematography was most apt for this picture though a bit too dark in a few scenes, the scripting was tight and heavy on rich dialogue, the music scores was also well suited especially the last scenes where orchestras were played.

One could hand Uru Eke a cookie for her attempt but certain little pieces should have been better put in place, example how did O.C Ukeje’s character make it back into the corporation even after he was sent out? And why did the movie end so abruptly? That piece is the basic part of any picture and it was taken for granted, it felt rushed at the end. Heroic movies like this always give that gallant lasting impression that heaves the attention of the audience with smiles and not leave them disappointed, it is fair to break conventions in film making but this has to still be done to please the audience, the title not connecting with the movie was enough convention already shattered.

The Most Savage Nigerian Celebrities On Social Media image

The Most Savage Nigerian Celebrities On Social Media

It’s the social media revolution and everyone is joining in; from the regular consumers to the big cooperate bodies, everyone seems to be having a little fun but is there such a thing as too much fun? Certainly not on twitter, there isn’t. There practically isn’t a time of the day where you can have a little cyber peace especially now that everyone has one gizmo or the other in the palms of their hand and with people like Subdeliveryman and the man of the moment, TrailerJamShow, it has become increasingly difficult to just go about your online business without running into one or two hilarious jabs dealt usually at people who don’t know how to mind their business. This has become such a regular part of cyber communication that the cyber community has developed a name for these soulless ghouls who dish out clap backs with consummate ease – Savages are what they are been called these days and I’m going to be showing you three of the worst celebrity savages Nigeria boasts of.

First on my list, David Adeleke; the grand pioneer of urban Nigerian twitter comebacks. Davido unlike most of the successful artistes we have in the nation today didn’t get up there because he had music as his only shot at being anything and isn’t new to the “money rolling in” aspect of things. Born to Lagos billionaire Dr.Deji Adeleke, Davido certainly didn’t lack much growing up, he definitely shows to us on twitter every now and then that the money is really no big deal dashing out money and so much more to his fans on the social media. Here are just a few of his glorious clap backs.

WALE

Step forward Young Olu. Olubowale Victor Akintimehin, better known by his stage name Wale is a black American rapper from Washington. “They call me Whale but ma name Wa-Le” Wale has never been one to hide his African roots paying visits to his country Nigeria fairly regularly and keeping in touch with the Nigerian music industry. Wale definitely makes our cut for savage Nigerian social media users.

I don’t know what Tj Maxx is but i really feel bad for this guy.

Ben Murray-Bruce

Your eyes are not deceiving you unfortunately, Ben Murray- Bruce, Nigerian politician and founder of the Silverbird group and more recently, pioneer of the #BuyNaijaToTheNaira makes our list. He has over the last year or so made his way into our hearts as practically the only sensible Nigerian politician out here.

Ben Bruce, the man who started the Common sense revolution has dished out quite a number of famous twitter comebacks so good you begin to wonder if he has his twitter account managed for him; whatever the case, this spectacular man has made quite a name for himself on twitter as the saviour Nigeria might need who is brave enough to speak his mind on matters most politicians turn a blind eye to. It’s a mystery how he manages to cook up tweets like these:

Meet George, The Accidental Nigerian Movie Star image

Meet George, The Accidental Nigerian Movie Star

George is one of those people who always ends up in preposterous situations, at least that’s what his cousin Jamie says. A couple of years ago he went backpacking in India, where he got kidnapped on arrival and held for ransom on a houseboat in Kashmir for a week.

Later that year, while George happened to be in Ghana, he managed somehow to be part of Festival of love, a Nigerian movie about Christianity and witchcraft filmed entirely in Ghana.

Jamie got talking with his cousin George and reported the entire conversation to VICE, a North London online editorial.

VICE: Hey, George. First off, I guess tell me how the hell all of this happened.
George: Well, I was volunteering at a football organisation in Ghana, and I'd go drinking at this bar every evening with Dundo Nsawam, a Nigerian politician I'd met out there. It turned out one of his best friends is a top Nigerian casting agent, and he desperately needed a white guy for his new film.

Just any white guy?
Yeah, basically. Any English-speaking white guy. He said he really liked the chemistry between me and Dundo, so he wanted me to be in the film, but I was like, "This is absurd. I've never acted before in my life."

Did you have to audition?
Yeah, I got taken to some back alley in Accra, the capital city, and walked into a room where there were these five huge Nigerian guys in suits who were all smoking Cuban cigars. There was only one other guy there to audition – this overweight Ukrainian guy covered in gold chains – so he went first and had to say the line, "You are the most beautiful black creature I've ever seen in my life." But he had a really thick accent. I got up, said the line, and they were all over me. They asked if I was Christian, and I lied and said yes because I figured I was there and might as well go for it. I saw Dundo later that day and he told me I got the part.

I bet you were psyched. How soon did you start shooting?
I think it was about two weeks between the audition and the first day, so that gave me a bit of time to look at the script, which was full of the most horrendously cringeworthy lines I've ever seen in my life. Anyway, two weeks later, they picked me up in this van with the other 30 members of cast and crew and drove us three hours to this hotel in the Ghanaian rainforest, which also acted as the palace in the movie.

Very nice. What is the movie about, exactly?
It's set in a village called Insawa, which is famous for practicing old African magic, some of which involves killing babies and stuff. The prince of Insawa had gone to study at Oxford, where he met Pastor Williams – my character – who converted him to Christianity, so the prince goes back and tries to convert his village. But there's an evil goddess of dark magic there who makes it very hard for him. So, he asks me to fly over to Insawa to spread the word of God, but this goddess tries to kill me and – spoiler alert – we end up falling in love, she stops being so evil and the whole village gets converted to Christianity. The final scene is me and her with a mixed-race baby, living happily ever after.

Ah, you ruined the ending.
Well, the film's five hours long, so I was just saving you a bit of time. It's weird; I never, at any point in my life, thought that I might contribute to the Christianisation of Africa. It kind of became a real moral dilemma for me, because I think it's the most horrendous thing that's been done there.

What did you do to fill the hours between shoots?
Well, it got weird before we even started filming. The night we arrived, I found out I was sharing a bed with the producer and one of the lead actors, who were both absolutely massive, so that was kind of awkward. It then turned out that they were all uber-Christian, so they started listening to all this insane preaching, then began talking in tongues for a bit. Then, right after that, they whack on this ridiculous porn, so it goes from Christian love-in to porno session.

What about your groupie experience?
Oh god, yeah. That night, they left me in there by myself, then I get a knock on the door and it's three of the actresses holding a big boombox, playing all this hypersexual R&B. They all started stripping all around me and trying to get me up to dance with them. I was already so uncomfortable after that weird porn experience, and I think they were a bit disappointed I didn't join in, but I was scared.

Ha, fair enough. And this was all on the first night?
Yeah, I still couldn't really believe it was happening. The next day we had the costume fitting, and I was 18, had just lost about two stone, because I wasn't really eating, and I'd shaved my head pretty recently, so they put me in this ridiculously oversized suit and whacked a load of thick hair gel in my hair, so I look about 12 years old.

What was you first scene?
It was right in the heart of the rainforest, and I was surrounded by about 20 people. They gave me a loudspeaker and told me to improvise a monologue about the beginning of time and why I was there as a Christian missionary. The most ridiculous thing, though, is that everyone was about a metre away from me, so I'm screaming in their faces about how time began at the beginning of the Old Testament and all this stuff about my purpose as a messenger of God.

Wow. Then what?
I think next up was a scene where I had to perform an exorcism on a woman who'd been possessed, and this was during the local school's lunch break, so I had about 200 children watching me in hysterics as I was screaming stuff like, "Deliver the devil from the depths of your soul!"

That sounds like a lot fun.
It was horrendous. In the next scene, I was supposed to recite a prayer in front of about 50 locals, but, of course, I don't know any prayers, except for what I could remember of the Lord's prayer from school. They said, "OK, just talk in tongues for a bit." Obviously I'd never talked in tongues before, but they said if I just got in touch with the God inside me, or whatever, then it would be easy. I took a deep breath and just tried to copy what I'd heard the guys do in the hotel room the night before, and it obviously worked, because all these locals started going completely mental

Oh, I forgot about my absolute favourite moment from what I've seen of the film. The love scene with the goddess in the waterfall.
Oh yeah, that was hilarious. It was a silent monologue where we had to pretend to be in love, and I hated the actress playing the goddess by this point. She was such a prima donna. You know, clicking her fingers for people to bring her stuff – I couldn't stand it. Anyway, we were supposed to be in love, so we'd be looking lovingly at each other, then she'd point at something in a tree and be like, "Oh my God, do you have any pets? What's your favourite food?" And I'd be like, "Oh yes, a cat, and I love shepherd's pie and pizza." Then, after that scene, I take her hand and lead her to this rock, look at her very sincerely, and say "You are the most beautiful black creature I've ever set my eyes on," which is just the most ridiculous thing I've ever said. It's very painful to watch.

I'm actually very jealous in a lot of ways. What happened after the movie wrapped?
Promotional interviews where I had to say stuff like, "I've been blessed by these people, and I think the script was so beautiful and eloquent, and it's so important to spread the word of Christianity," and a load of other ridiculous stuff. I also started seeing my picture everywhere, because the film got released in, I think, 13 African countries, and the method of advertising a film out there is to stick a load of posters on the side of a van, and drive round with a loudspeaker shouting about the film. So I started getting people shouting "Pastor Williams" at me in the street.

So you suddenly had an army of fans?
Not quite, but even as I'm talking to you now, I'm getting messages and friend requests from Nigerian women, either complimenting me on my chemistry with the goddess, or suggesting that we get married so they can get a visa. Wait, one just popped up on Facebook chat – someone called Promise Love – she's asking if I know how she can get an audition for a film.

Hook her up.
Oh, also, about a year after all this, I was out at a club in Manchester. It was about five in the morning, and I was having a pee. This guy taps on my shoulder and goes, "Are you that boy from that movie Festival Of Love?" I told him I was, so he got five of his mates into the loo and they made me reenact the "You're the most beautiful black creature..." scene in this nightclub toilet at five in the morning. It was bizarre.

Drink Responsibly, What Does That Even Mean? image

Drink Responsibly, What Does That Even Mean?

There’s practically no liquor commercial that doesn’t say “Drink responsibly” just before it ends. This phrase has been brandished so much that it has lost its meaning and really doesn’t serve its purpose anymore.

“Drink responsibly, nobody ever takes that seriously” said my friend Wale, a 22 year old graduate of the University of Lagos.  While some alcohol consumers say it’s a kind warning for people who do not know how to control their alcohol intake to back off, some think it’s a trick to coax you into purchasing their product even while being fully aware of your health status and the implications of further alcohol intake.

“Drink responsibly is a cynical and cruel joke that demonstrates the contempt that the liquor industry has for its most loyal customers, anyone who understands the nature of alcoholic behavior knows that If you say you are trying to control your drinking, it means your drinking is controlling you” said Lew Howe explaining how seven months of sobriety has helped him come to the conclusion that liquor companies just do it...as Nigerians will say “for doing’s sake

I’m inclined to believe that Mr Howe is right, after all, most liquor commercials say “Drink responsibly” or “Enjoy in moderation” but how many of these commercials go further to give a more specific responsibility message? Well, research done at the John Hopkins University in Baltimore found that over 80 percent of magazine ads for liquor, beer and so-called alcopop beverages contained a responsibility message. Yet among the 1,795 ads reviewed, taken from U.S. magazines published 2008 through 2010, not one had a responsibility message that gave specifics.

Health warnings must be specific to change ones behaviour, if you want to warn people against something, you need to be clear about what you’re warning them against and why.

There’s a whole bunch of liquor companies parading almost senseless warnings calling them responsibility messages, an example of such is the Hennessey cognac which says “Flaunt your taste” then further below, “please flaunt responsibly”

If you believe there is some sort of rule of thumb when it comes to drinking, actually there is. The National institute on alcohol abuse and alcoholism defines moderate drinking as up to one drink per day for women and up to two drinks per day for men. Binge drinking is generally considered to be four drinks for women, and five drinks for men, within about two hours. Surely, putting this in your alcohol ad wouldn’t do that much damage to your liquor sales and even if it does, you probably would have saved some lives while doing that.

Now, while the rule of thumb from the National institute on alcohol abuse and alcoholism may be vague, here is a list of more specific things to take into consideration before or during drinking.

Don’t drink till you’re of legal age

Here is one thing liquor ads do, they tell you not to purchase till you’re 18 or 21 in the United States, the reason behind this is simple, unless you’re ready to face legal consequences, don’t purchase until you’re of legal age.

Know your limit

Find out how much drink you can consume while still being in control of yourself. A lot of people do not know their limit and thus drink to stupor every time. You can easily find this out by drinking with friends or family with the aim of observing what effect each glass has on you.

Mix it up a little

When at a party, have a non-alcoholic drink between the alcoholic one to keep your blood alcohol concentration down. Space your alcoholic drinks out to keep the desired blood alcohol concentration.

Avoid unfamiliar drinks

Drinks like Orimalu, Baby Oku and practically every drink that comes in little sachets aren’t too good for you.

Know how you’re getting home

Regardless of all I’ve said, when you drink, you always run the risk of getting tipsy, make sure you know how you’re getting home. If you’re driving, have that in mind before you drink.

Don’t drink if you’re not in a positive mood

Alcohol is a depressant, so if you're already feeling angry, upset, or just unstable, it is very likely to make you feel worse. You may think that drinking will make you have the time of your life and forget all of your problems, it'll actually make you feel much worse. You may feel an initial buzz and relief after your first drink or two, but you'll drink yourself into a much worse mood than you started with.

I’m pretty sure this isn’t all there is to it but if you follow these few tips, you shouldn’t have much problem with alcohol.

Egyptair Plane: Hijacker Seizes Plane To See His Wife

p>An EgyptAir plane (flight MS181) flying from Alexandria to Cairo earlier today was hijacked by a passenger claiming to be wearing an explosive belt.

After further examination, the belt was dismissed to be a fake and although the hijacker's motives remain unclear but the Cypriot president said the incident was not terrorism-related.

An official at Egypt’s ministry of foreign affairs ruled out a terrorist motive, saying: “He’s not a terrorist, he’s an idiot. Terrorists are crazy but they aren’t stupid. This guy is.”

The flight MS181 had 55 passengers on board during the time it was seized and all were safely released by the hijacker. The plane was hijacked 30 minutes into its flight and in less than 1 hour, Local tv already covered the happenings showing 40 of the 55 passengers being freed.

Reports identified the hijacker as Seif Eldin Mustafa. Motive behind the hijacking remain unclear but authorities say Mustafa wanted to talk to his estranged Cypriot wife who lives on the Mediterranean island, while others said he was seeking the release of female prisoners in Egypt.

Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades when asked about the motive behind this responded by laughing and saying: "Always there is a woman involved."

Statement from the Egyptian civil aviation ministry said foreign nationals onboard included eight Americans, four Britons, four Dutch, two Belgians, a French national, an Italian, two Greeks and one Syrian. Three other foreigners could not be identified. The nationalities of those who remained on the plane were not given.

The Hijacker was arrested later during the day at Larnaca airport and thankfully, the remaining 15 passengers were also unharmed.

Healthier Alternatives To Smoking image

Healthier Alternatives To Smoking

Smoking kills, practically everyone is aware of this fact but any smoker will tell you that with every stick, it gets increasingly difficult to quit. The smoking prevalence for Nigeria given by the World Health Organization was 10.49 percent for male and 0.9 percent for female by 2009 but with millions picking up this killer habit daily, these figures are on the rise. Now, you may think 10.49 percent shouldn’t be regarded as a lot but that counts for at least 16.7 million Nigerians.

Toxicology research carried out shows that smoking kills you by the minute. Chemicals which cause a wide range of cancers form rapidly after smoking.

The researchers looked at the level of chemicals linked with cancer, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAH), in 12 patients after smoking.

A PAH was added to the subject's cigarettes, which was then modified by the body and turned into another chemical which damages DNA and has been linked with cancer.

The research shows this process only took between 15 and 30 minutes to take place.

Smoking just doesn’t cause cancer in the long run; it also could lead to heart disease, COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), stroke, asthma, Premature Low Birth-Weight Babies, Diabetes and frankly, the list goes on.

WHY DO PEOPLE SMOKE?

Most people pick up smoking during their younger years or while in universities and have struggled to quit several times because smoking is super addictive. At such a young age, you don't really think about the health risks of smoking and you certainly do not realise how addictive smoking can be. As a teenager you probably think that you can try smoking a few times and then take it or leave it.

Nicotine being an addictive substance doesn’t take long to begin manifesting that trait with smokers capable of experiencing withdrawal symptoms within a short time after first use.

There are a handful of reasons why people find themselves smoking, here are a few:

Peer pressure: Many children decide to smoke because their friends do. Most of these children continue to smoke because they grew up around people who do (parents or siblings) and do not see the big deal, after all they aren’t alone.

As far as children go, some children pick up smoking to rebel against authorities while others do to look mature and cool.

Stress and personal problems: Adults pick up smoking for entirely different reasons mostly because of stress caused by economic reasons and more personal problems. They may be homeless or living with parents, unemployed or underpaid, dealing with relationship problems or bad marriages. When one is confronted with these sorts of problems, a stress relief will not be far away and smoking does offer a temporary escape from these problems.

There are some people who smoke because they just love to; some say it gives them pleasure.

HEALTHIER ALTERNATIVES TO SMOKING

Sugarfree Gum: Many smokers see cigarettes as pacifiers that satisfy their lips’ need to be engaged. Scientists have found that it's not just the nicotine in cigarettes that gets people hooked - it's the oral fixation; i.e. the sensation of having something in the mouth as well.

Sugarfree gum is a perfect alternative for such people as it satisfies the lips’ need to be engaged and keeps the acidity levels in the mouth balanced and is good for your teeth and gums, unlike cigarettes.

Dark Chocolates: The nicotine in cigarettes releases dopamine, a compound that causes the feeling of joy, pleasure and satisfaction in the body. Eating dark chocolates increases the dopamine levels in the brain just like cigarettes do and is a delicious substitute to smoking but shouldn’t be overdone.

Yoga: If you follow our monthly editorials, then this wouldn’t come as a surprise to you. You cannot talk about healthy ways to counter addictions without mentioning yoga.

If the main precursor of your smoking is stress and personal issues that need some form of channelling, then Yoga is your best bet and it even burns calories and will help you get in shape.

Starch: We Consume Too Much Of It But Can We Really Help It? image

Starch: We Consume Too Much Of It But Can We Really Help It?

Starch is a part of the total carbohydrate (fibres, starch and sugar). One-third of our food should come from starchy foods. These food types are good sources of energy, as well as the main sources of nutrients in our diets. Examples of the starchy food we consume include: brown rice, pasta, noodles, millet, sorghum, oats, barleys, potato, yam, cassava, corn, plantain, green bananas, whole wheat bread etc. When this food is eaten, they are broken down into sugar in our bodies. Therefore, consuming excess starch is synonymous to consuming excess sugar. This results in increasing your blood sugar level.

How We Consume Excess Starch

Practically every Nigerian consumes starch every day but just how much starch is too much starch? The answer to that isn’t as straightforward as one might think as it depends on genetic factors, body fat percentage, exercise and even type of job, especially sports men and women. Reasons why we consume this particular polysaccharide in excess are listed below:

  • Socio-economic factors: This is dependent on the personnel income. Food is a major necessity in the human race which is required for sustainability on earth. it is no respecter of class because we satisfy this need at all cost. Low income earners who try as much as possible to provide the three square meal a day are at greater risk of becoming obese if they do not balance their diets.
  • Eating disorder and night-eating syndrome: Most times we want to keep our mouth busy just to stay awake or probably do some dieting to keep fit so we skip breakfast. It is quite good but it has its side effects on both our physical and mental being.
    • Late-night snacking: This is commonly found among the undergraduates and working class who try as much as possible to meet up with an assignment, preparation for an examination, seeing a movie or having a presentation at the least possible hour.
    • Over-eating: This could be as a result of how famished one can be and also how delicious a meal can be. Most of the time, overeating comes when one gets a free food ’awoof’ from a friend’s place or even at a party, let’s face it, party food is always sweeter.
  • Home environment: The choice of location can have an indirect effect on one’s diet or eating habits. The proximity to the market enables one to have the best of fresh food and balanced meals such that it becomes difficult to settle for the processed food. This also reduces the rate at which one visits restaurants.
  • Increase in food prices: With the increase in the prices of food items, starchy foods are relatively cheap, which is as well convenient to prepare.

There are adverse effects to things that come in excess. Regular consumption of starchy foods in high proportion can result in insulin resistance, weight gain and increase in blood sugar level.

Dating For Dummies: Don't Take These Days For Granted image

Dating For Dummies: Don't Take These Days For Granted

Hi there, I’m no relationship expert but if you’re like me and don’t know the first thing about what women want or how to keep her satisfied in a relationship, you should take a look at this piece cause it definitely helped me. If you’re worried that I’m the source of the advice, you can rest easy; I got this from my parents who’ve been married for 20+ years and my couple friends who are 3 years and going on strong. Being happy in any relationship is usually the result of feeling highly appreciated by your partner in the little things that they do. A constant reminder of genuine love not just in word but action will go a long way to ensure your relationship keeps going.

Here’s the tip: Remember the days.

It sounds vague but I’ll get to explaining it. In any relationship, there are days that are of more significance than others and have high sentiment and emotion attached to them. It’s crucial not to ever forget the details of some of these days or to especially celebrate your partner on others. It’s a bit of work but when you find the girl that’s worth it, it’s a lot easier.

Day #1: Birthday

This is a pretty straightforward one and on no occasion should you ever forget your partner’s birthday unless of course you want them mad at you for days or are looking to get the cold shoulder. If you forget their birthday; you are just about a step closer to the end of that relationship.

Day #2: First Time You Met

One of the most romantic things a guy can do for his babe is remember the date and details of the day they met; where, how and even how she smelled are all important details. No matter how long ago it’s been, you’ve got to remember so you can blow her away this simple gesture.

Day #3: Valentine's Day

The odds of remaining in a relationship after forgetting Valentine's Day are just about as high as the odds of me dating Kim Kardashian. Everyone is showing her love including folks who wanna seize the bae and if you fail to remind her of your love with the grandest gesture you can afford, I guarantee that she starts entertaining that guy she told you not to worry about.

Day #4: Anniversary

The day you finally professed your attraction to her and made your relationship official is usually impossible to forget but in case you're that forgetful you'd better make a song that'll help you remember. A nice dinner at home or out is usually a must and appreciating her for being in your life never fails to charm. You can even go as far as saying it's the best decision you ever made.

Day #5: First Time You Slept Together

Remembering the first time you slept together will help put her mind at ease that she's more than just another body count and she isn't in a situationship. Pen it down somewhere along with some details and pull this card if she ever begins doubting how much she means to you. Works every time!

Day #6: First Big Break/Graduations

Getting a college degree (Bachelors, Masters or Doctorate) is no mean feat and the euphoria of graduating is only rivalled by that of her first big break/payday. Make sure you let her know how proud you are of her achievements and be ever present that day cause you're the first person she wants to share that euphoria with.

There are many other days/moments that can be special to your partner for each distinct relationship and it's up to you to understand that and figure them out but you can never go wrong with these ones.

I hope this helps your relationship going forward and be sure to come back for more tips on "Dating for Dummies 101". Ciao!

Foreign Trips: A Nomadic President Isn't What The Country Needs Now image

Foreign Trips: A Nomadic President Isn't What The Country Needs Now

Almost an entire year of the newly elected administration that promised change and I believe I speak for the rest of the nation when I say we are fed up. You can’t say we haven’t been patient enough but I suppose in the administration’s defence, they have brought about a level of change already, albeit not in the direction we hoped.

An administration that showed so much promise right from its inception but has done little to bring to life all that was promised to us if we believed in change – An administration that has been reduced to nothing more than a conglomerate of different people with different ideas overseen by a “nomadic herdsman”.  I want to believe that the current unliveable state the country is in right now is a side effect of the administration clamping down on fraudulent transactions done under the noses of previous administrations but am I just being hopeful? Does President Muhammadu Buhari even know what he signed up for?

I remember December 2014, I was a staunch believer in GEJ and I hoped he would win the elections but APC launched a campaign so good, I quickly became a believer in the change revolution and picked sides with Muhammadu Buhari and Prof. Yemi Osinbajo.

I thought to approach this write up from a different angle but 3 a.m. petrol queues and power supply so bad you cannot put in words made me loosen up a little. Now what can we really say our beloved president has done over the last 308 days? I’ll tell you what... our president had been on 12 trips before the New Year and another 12 just after, and it’s only just April, he has proven to be quite the nomad.

University Of Lagos Shuts Down Indefinitely image

University Of Lagos Shuts Down Indefinitely

It’s always one thing or the other in the University of Lagos when examinations draw closer, every graduate of Unilag can testify. This time it began with a peaceful protest by members of the ULSU (University of Lagos student union) a few days ago following the lack of proper power supply and ongoing scarcity of petroleum products – problems the whole nation has had to bear with for a while now. As angry protesters marched through the roads of Unilag, other more reasonable students well aware of the nature of the crisis stayed indoors to wait it out. This aggravated the ULSU protesters ever more as they went straight into hostels forcing and apparently beating students who decided they weren’t taking a part in the whole thing.

With the whole school turned on its head, management of the University of Lagos, Akoka announced earlier today at around 10 a.m. that students are to vacate the hostels immediately.

With the school gates closed shut, students have had to “scale” the fence to get out of the university premises.

Male Birth Control Pills Are Coming Faster Than You Think image

Male Birth Control Pills Are Coming Faster Than You Think

Vasalgel, a non-hormonal male contraceptive owned by the medical research organisation THE PARSEMUS FOUNDATION is set to hit the market in 2018 for men who find wearing condoms uncomfortable or not satisfying enough.

Over the years, birth control organisations have shifted their focus on women but the simple truth is that it’s just as concerning to men as it is to women.

Vasalgel is essentially a polymer that’s injected under local anesthetic into the man’s sperm-carrying tubes, accessible through the scrotum — not in his penis or testicles as some authors have erred. It works by blocking sperm and is expected to be reversible through a second injection that dissolves the polymer.

Its efficacy and full reversibility have not been proven yet but trials later this year will ensure the public know what they are getting into once they decide to get the pill.

According to Telegraph Uk, Another advantage of Vasalgel is that while it blocks sperm, other fluid can still pass through. This should reduce any risk of pain due to back pressure, an occasional issue with vasectomies. This could make Vasalgel a best-seller, even among men seeking a permanent contraceptive option.

There are other options and among them is Gendarussa, another non-hormonal contraceptive, has gone through phase II human trials in Indonesia. The method is hypothesised to work by preventing the sperm’s ability to fertilise an egg.

Vasalgel is set to begin trials later this year and enter the market in 2018 if results are positive.

15 Million Naira Ransom Demanded For Release Of Channels Tv Correspondent

A sum of N15million was demanded for the release of Temitope Kuteyi, a correspondent of Channels Television abducted by gunmen in Owerri, Imo state capital on Monday.

Temitope was abducted in his house which is located along Umuguma Specialist Hospital, Owerri, in the early hours of Monday, and his whereabouts has been unknown.

According to an eye witness, the kidnappers were about eight in number and jumped through his fence to gain access to where he was.

“I was in the security room with my brother when someone opened the window and pointed a gun at us and ordered us to open the gate, but I refused,” said the eye witness, Thomas.

“While I was arguing with them, I didn’t know that other members of the gang had climbed into the compound through the fence; they broke into my ‘oga’s’ house and brought him out.

“After that, they entered into the next bungalow and smashed all the window glasses, but the man there escaped through the fence at the back.

“They took his car and drove away with my Oga.”

Hours later, the kidnappers contacted a friend of the victim demanding a ransom of N15million.

According to thecable ng, a press statement issued by Sam Onwuemeodo, chief press secretary to Rochas Okorocha, governor of Imo, the government said it was aware of the incident.

The statement reminded the kidnappers that the victim was only a reporter, accusing them of deciding to inconvenience the victim and his family – “A journalist cannot afford to pay any ransom. To us he must have been a victim of mistaken

Cinematic Review Of Mildred Okwo's ‘Surulere’ (Patience Pays) image

Cinematic Review Of Mildred Okwo's ‘Surulere’ (Patience Pays)

Surulere is one movie I have honestly anticipated since sometime last year when I saw some BTS photos and I mean it’s Mildred Okwo’s third film (I should have easily said second film but FYI, 30 days was her first, who knew?) but honestly the reason I wanted to see this movie was not because of the movie in itself, trailer and all but because of how much of a great movie ‘the meeting’ was, I mean Mildred had already carved a large niche for herself with that one but above all the MAINEST reason I had to see SURULERE was because of the heart wrenching and unbelievable review I had read were the movie was captioned a ‘disappointing pot of hot mess’ that review left me piqued and curious knowing well enough that mama glazed lens is not your average Nigerian get-rich-quick producer.

Surulere is a comedy that tells the story of a young timid graduate, Arinze (Seun Ajayi) desperate to beat his financial burdens in the process, he meets a financial go getter, Omosigho (Beverly Naya) their meeting shoots off a series of events that pressure Arinze into a get rich quick scheme. This movie was well directed by Mildred Okwo, it had very commendable shots of Lagos without necessarily choking us with any particular distraction (Lekki- Ikoyi bridge precisely), that was a breath of fresh air, Nollywood cinema goers will understand this, the angles at which many scenes were shot from was also a beauty to watch, the acting in this movie was top notch in every regard, Seun Ajayi didn’t remind us whatsoever that he was a new kid on the block with his AMVCA worthy portrayal of Arinze, another thing worth commending about him was he not trying hard to be funny though it was a comedy, that made his character more believable and hilarious and also a breath of fresh air that O.C Ukeje was not given the role, LOL. I won’t say I’m not a fan of Beverly’s acting though it should have been added to the story that she was a returnee from the U.K or something, she literally was trying too hard to sound Nigerian, Kemi Lala Akindoju proved herself worthy of Kunle Afolayan’s words, she was superb in her role as beauty and the landlady though I didn’t quite get why she played both roles, but for whatever reason, it was easy to overlook, Gregory Ojefua (the boss) was exceptional with his portrayal, Nwinna Nwigwe showed us how versatile he could be with roles and Tope Tedela’s fruity character was sure a hilarious one to watch though I felt he was a little uncomfortable with his role so that stiffened him a bit but hey!!! He was superb all the same. Rita Dominic who co- produced this movie graced us with a cameo without having to play a major role were she won’t fit in like majority of her counterparts in the industry who must play lead in their production regardless of the character’s specification that was quite remarkable to say the least. The screenplay written by Richard Odilu was far from banal and very relatable. The cinematography was not captivating however. The music scores in this one were just wonderful, every scene was well scored this added more value to the movie.

In all, Surulere is a wonderful piece of comedy that proves itself in its own right with a few easy to overlook goofs like the scene were the movie’s scripts are sprawled on the floor in the office, aside that, nothing was over the top and it is worth every piece of your money, it is nothing close to disappointing let alone a pot of mess. Go and see it and thank me later.

T.L.O.P. Not A Complete F.L.O.P. image

T.L.O.P. Not A Complete F.L.O.P.

The stakes have never been this high but grade-A asshole Kanye West sure delivered when it mattered the most.

We all thought the charade at Madison Square Garden came off as bogus for a $160 ticket price especially when all we got to do was sit and watch Kanye play 60% of the actual album off his laptop and watch people model with already worn clothes which isn’t a big deal if you can’t just sit at home and stream straight through the internet. The album which was originally intended to be titled swish... or waves... or So help me God finally dropped and i’m still trying to take it all in.

I’ve been a fan of Mr West for quite some time now and have grown to appreciate his music and his influence on pop culture even if those happen in some rather unpleasant ways. His works over the years have been nothing short of breathtaking and my love for his abilities even saw me through the auto-tune phase. Right from his first album, Mr. West has been producing Grammy winning materials, at least up until his last album; an album some people call revolutionary which still went on to go platinum btw.

“By contrast, the lead up to The Life of Pablo has been a brush fire. Over the past year huge singles were released and then abandoned, a new weekly series was announced and then faded into the fog, album titles were adopted and then discarded like Kim K trying on shoes, album covers were revealed that looked like they were done in Microsoft Paint, all while Kanye took to Twitter with the reckless abandon of a drunk college freshman.” Dj Booth.

This would have been really bad for Kanye if he hadn’t done such a bang up job with the album. Albeit a day late, The life of Pablo turns out to be a decent effort from our favourite jerk. Some will say “why not? Coming from Yeezus, anything he puts out will sound genius” but no, that’s not the case here. It actually proves to be an amazing work of art; you can actually tell from the tracklist he really wanted this one with the amount of samples he had to slot in.

You don’t have to listen too long or hard before you find some really nasty lyrics on this album, the most revolting being his jab at Taylor Swift intentionally leaving out the fact that before he interrupted her acceptance speech at the ‘09 MTV VMAs Swift’s second album had already sold 5m copies in America alone, gone platinum in 10 countries and enjoyed the decade’s longest run at the top of the US. And i’m not going to mention the Ray J line which i don’t know whether it’s intended to hurt Ray J or his own wife.

An album reminiscent of all of Kanye’s earlier works and worthy of competing with the modern Rap culture which involves mostly twitter beefs and name calling on instagram.

How The Chibok Girls Have Raised $2.5Billion For Girl Child Education image

How The Chibok Girls Have Raised $2.5Billion For Girl Child Education

Yesterday made it 2 years since the kidnapping of over 200 girls from a Government secondary school in Chibok, Nigeria. Although it was an event we wish didn’t happen, it has prompted the world to take female education a lot more seriously.

The first lady of the United States, or FLOTUS as some say, Michelle Obama has called for the education of every girl child during the Let Girls Learn event in the World Bank Group-IMF Spring Meetings.

The call was well received, alongside a commitment from the World Bank Group to invest $2.5 billion on the education of the girl-child – an amount that will be spent during a 5 year period on education projects that directly benefit adolescent girls, whose empowerment is central to the Bank Group’s development efforts.

The announcement, made at the Let Girls Learn event during the World Bank Group-IMF Spring Meetings, was followed by a call to action from the First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama, urging key policymakers and influencers from around the world to commit to urgent action in support of adolescent girls.

“It’s an expression of our belief in the power of education to transform the lives and prospects of millions of girls worldwide — as well as the prospects of their families, their communities and, of course, their countries,” FLOTUS said.

“I’m very excited to join the First Lady in announcing this major boost in funding for adolescent girls’ education,” said World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim. “Empowering and educating adolescent girls is one of the best ways to stop poverty from being passed from generation to generation, and can be transformational for entire societies. This increased funding will help provide countries, especially in regions like Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia, with the tools to expand access to quality education so that all adolescent girls can go to school and reach their full potential.”

Obama said the drive to educate all girls is not just about resources, but about whether “we truly believe that girls are worth educating in the first place. And that’s where this issue becomes personal for me...When I travel the world and I meet girls who are so bright and so hungry to go to school, I see myself in these girls. I see my daughters in these girls.”

“Make no mistake about it. These girls are our girls. Every last one of them. These girls are our responsibility.”

The event was held on the two-year anniversary of the abduction of 200 Nigerian schoolgirls by the terrorist group Boko Haram.

All The Right Things To Do To Her This Valentine image

All The Right Things To Do To Her This Valentine

Valentine’s Day can seem pretty challenging, especially if your relationship is fairly young and you’re still trying to figure her out. You’re trying to walk the thin line between doing too little and going overboard with Christian Grey planned activities but what doesn’t help is the fact that you spent nearly a fortune during the Christmas period with no significant bonding happening. If this is you, well, we have got you covered... at least to some extent - women are hard to understand, not gonna lie.

Start it off just right

If you’re in a relationship, whether you believe in the spirit or significance of this holiday, you’re simply going to have to celebrate it regardless and a simple way to get things started is a text message or a simple phone call but take note that this isn’t done with the motive of wishing her a happy Valentine’s Day but simply to tell her how much you love her and how incomplete and lost in the world you would be if it weren’t for her in your life....You know, that type of stuff.

Show it, somehow

Once you’re done with the first step, she already feels extra special that day and truth be told, if you’re short on cash, it’s fine provided you really execute the first step superbly. If you got a little money to spare, you may proceed.

Now you’re left with showing her how much of those words you meant and a good way to do this is by spending time together but this is where it gets tricky, but we’ll try to talk you through the do’s and don’ts.

DO’S

  • Nothing beats an early gift; try to grab something for your lover on the way to your rendezvous point. As traditional as greeting cards can be, they should do just fine.
  • Spoil her. Don’t just grab a greeting card; get a bouquet of flowers or some simple jewellery. Something to bring out the reds in her cheeks.
  • If you usually go on dates separately, today isn’t the day I’m afraid, try really hard to get a taxi to get her before proceeding to wherever. You can get an uber but these days, we’re not sure that’s a smarter option.

DON’TS

  • Avoid doing the regular; do not go see a movie, it’s a day to spend quality time together, save the movies for later. Ideal is a simple but not so expensive dinner at any restaurant of your choice.
  • Do not go short with the compliments; keep them coming, attack attack attack.
  • Whether you’re going to get dinner, lunch or going somewhere to have fun, do not leave after the event is done, try to spend extra time to talk and do some sightseeing.

Well i think that is that but before i leave to start planning what type of day i’ll be having myself, if you have more than one girlfriend before Valentine’s Day, remember all of them or you’d be surprised you’ll have none the next day.

Simple Steps To Avoid Gaining An Extra Pound During The Christmas Period image

Simple Steps To Avoid Gaining An Extra Pound During The Christmas Period

Throwback a couple of years and you probably wouldn’t be reading this. Everyone loved the Christmas season, not because Jesus was supposedly born during it but because of all the goodies it brings along and the simple reason that schools are forced to round things up before then. With a lot of us not minding too much what we look like so long as the Christmas is filled with chocolates, drinks and tons of jollof rice, Gaining an extra pound or two was not a thing of concern in the past but with most of us desperately trying to “seize the bae”, returning to school or work in January with a protruding tummy is a no no.

It’s very common to gain an extra pound which may prove difficult to burn after the festivities are over so we have got you covered with a few tips for you to consider before digging into that bowl of chinchin and groundnuts.

  1. Avoid starting the party from home: Before you head out to that party, get something light and healthy to eat. This will keep your hunger level to a bare minimum and should stop you from gorging on everything served at the party.
  2. Choose fresh seafood over fried foods as they contain less fat.
  3. Go for dark over milk or white chocolate. They contain less sugar and could contain antioxidants.
  4. Liquid calories are the undoing of a lot of us. Swap the sugary sodas for a soda water and fresh lime. If alcohol is on the cards than try swapping your champagne for a vodka soda and fresh lime.
  5. Serving nuts? Opt for cashews over the regular peanuts they contain way less calories and fat for those prone to acne breakouts.
  6. Have some control. This requires discipline but is a good compromise. Don’t feel bad for tasting just a few goodies; complement yourself for not eating the whole bunch.
  7. Share your food! If you are given chocolates as a gift or someone brings a cake or baked goods, make sure you share them then and there. Give everyone some cake to take home. Saves you having to finish the whole thing off over the next few days!

Enjoy the season with your family and loved ones but try your best to not go out of control with the eating and drinking if you’re still interested in seizing the bae and living healthy. Merry Christmas.

Cinematic Review Of Niyi Akinmolayan's 'Out Of Luck' image

Cinematic Review Of Niyi Akinmolayan's 'Out Of Luck'

I went to see ‘out of luck’ for quite a  number of reasons; I had seen the trailer sometime which thought it was ‘dope’ and for the cast which I thought was brilliant, also to compensate myself for not seeing the department and when love happens which were blockbusters that happen to have been produced by the same person as ‘out of luck’ and lastly because I had read that the ‘screenplay was brilliant with no loose ends’, a remark that sparked my interest since i recently started working on my first script and I thought I could learn a thing or two.

The movie revolves around a young lottery operator (Tope Tedela) and his girlfriend (Linda Ejiofor) as their lives are turned upside down when a local gangster (Femi Branch) insists he be paid out on a lottery he did not win. Their attempt to pay the gangster takes them on a thrill ride from the slums of Lagos Island to the mansions of Ikoyi and back again. This movie has what I may call an ensemble cast with each actor being as brilliant and important as the other, Niyi Johnson (which i hadn’t known till this movie) and Chigurl did justice with comic relief while Femi Branch, the notable villain stood out for me. The direction by Niyi Akinmolayan was as good as it could get though the last faceoff scene could have been better executed. The screenplay which was written by Chinaza Onuzo was also not bad with ‘no loose ends’ but I didn’t quite get how you pass on your admission into a university like UI to your brother – This was a Katniss Everdeen move but this time, for something good. Forgive me if I’m wrong, but even if this happens or has ever happened, the story could have at least done a little explaining, making it more believable and how in heaven will a Nigerian go back to a bar in the slum with his rich brother when he knows his biggest problem is still very much at large and frequents there? That felt cheesy. Then again I don’t know whose fault this is but the scene showing the admission forfeiture had the brothers looking like kids too young to be considering university admission. The picture quality was smooth just like majority of ‘New Nollywood’ films but the sound quality wasn’t as good and the camera shots were shaky.

Overall this movie was quite interesting but would have been better if just a little more attention was given to a few minor details. Average viewers may not necessarily point out the minor faults in the movie so if you still haven’t seen it, try, it is worth your money.

Vic O: The Plague That Just Wouldn't Go image

Vic O: The Plague That Just Wouldn't Go

The fact that anyone would consider him a musician of any kind is beyond bemusing, but Vic O is persistent that he is a rapper. What’s even more bemusing is that he believes that he has actual musical talent. Vic-O is totally convinced that he is a rapper, amongst many other things (he tweeted that he directs, acts, sings and writes as well). It is a puzzle as to how he manages to keep gaining so much attention for his music despite how terrible it has been over the years.

My first encounter with Vic O was on Twitter when he decided it was time to end the Drake and Meek Mill beef with a diss track of his own. This of course seemed to be a joke to me and I pegged him down as one of the new comers in the internet comic brand that has become a fad in Nigeria. After some research, I discovered I was wrong and he had ‘supposedly’ been making music for the past six years. In light of this new info, the first that occurred to me was how easy it would be to produce a top-notch track to diss Vic O. His face looks like it’s been in way too many cosmetic trials, and let us not even get started on his ridiculous accent. Of course, the mere notion that Drake or Meek might come across that track is laughable at best.

The man is very confused and that’s the first thing we should establish here. This is a guy who says he was contacted by Jay Z’s team for a certain collaboration that didn’t materialize because he lost his mobile device afterwards. How entirely ludicrous does an individual get? I think someone needs to call him to order, sit him down and talk some sense into him. Beyond that there is a possibility that he also needs urgent medical attention.

He recently tweeted that he was going to give away five hundred thousand naira after being inspired by Don Jazzy and all people needed to do was tweet what they loved about him. This was incredibly amusing to me and I had a good laugh and that was it. It then came as a shock to me when people began to reply with words of praise, and it was high praise indeed. Of course, there is the chance, it was done in good fun but this only serves to fuel his delusion. Even M.I managed to encourage him after tweeting ’10 reasons why Vic O is the greatest of all’. I can only guess people indulge his delusion because it makes him even funnier.

After the recent Grammy nomination list was released, here’s what Vic O had to say: “The people that compiled the list of @TheGRAMMYs nomination are very FOOLISH! I want to believe they don't know what they are doing....” Haha, surely he thinks he deserves a Grammy nomination. After all, he killed both Drake and Meek Mill with his own 2 in 1 combo diss track.

Of course, all of this would make much more sense if he came out and said he was a comedian because it is obvious to all that he provides good comic relief, but that is not the case. What makes this situation even more difficult is the fact that his delusion is one of the reasons he is such comedy gold. The mere fact that he considers what he does music is bound to have you in stitches. The problem however is that the attention he gains as a result only pushes him to do more. I would like to believe this is all an act, that he is aware he is a comedian and his feigned ignorance is all a part of the act as well but all evidence points to the contrary.

I end this piece by saying that despite all the facts and what is clear to everyone, Vic-O is not one of the upcoming comedians in the country and it is with a heavy heart and a sad, sad countenance that I say this: Vic-O is a ‘rapper’. He believes himself to be one and there is no changing that. Does he flow well? Do any of his hooks make sense musically? No. On all counts. Yet, he has two studio albums out. I have friends with real musical talent who haven’t been able to put an album together. He is good for the laughs (sure) but a much more deep-seated issue of his mental state is one his team needs to take more seriously. He may actually be making money from this whole charade (I doubt that) and this may lead those close to him and his team to not be concerned about it but there is the chance it may deteriorate and wouldn’t we be all sad if Vic O couldn’t make us laugh anymore.

Apparently, Closing Apps To Save Your Battery Only Makes Things Worse image

Apparently, Closing Apps To Save Your Battery Only Makes Things Worse

For many smartphone users, closing apps has become a subconscious action even while your battery is on a 100%. You double-tap your home button on your iPhone or click the multitasking key on your android and remove the apps you aren’t making use of but what we don’t know is that this single line of action could be doing us more harm than good.

In the last week or so, both Apple and Google have confirmed that closing your apps does absolutely nothing to improve your battery life. In fact, says Hiroshi Lockheimer, the VP of Engineering for Android, it might make things worse.

Stop closing your apps to save battery lie. There’s really nothing more to it, if you’re a tech noob, maybe i need to share to you David Pierce’s explanation of how multitasking works.

On iOS, for instance, there are five different states an app can be in at any given time. (Android’s setup is similar enough that we don’t need to go over both.) Not running is obvious: You haven’t launched it, it’s not running. Active is up on the screen and doing stuff. Inactive is a transitional phase, where it’s on the screen but not doing anything as you switch to something else. Background is when the app isn’t in front of your face but is working, refreshing your emails or bringing in the latest fire tweets. Last, there’s Suspended, which is when an app is in the background and doing absolutely nothing. It just sits in memory like a bump on a log.

On both Android and iOS, algorithms run memory management. They’ll close apps that need to be closed, typically ones that have been dormant for a while or are using more power or memory than they should. And they’re very good at knowing when you’re going to need data, or want a refresh, or open an app again. Apps that are already in memory open quickly, rather than having to fully start again; it’s like waking your computer from sleep rather than rebooting it completely. You’re far, far better off letting the system work for you rather than forcing it to re-open and re-start everything every time. Battery questions aside, it makes your phone slower and less coherent.

If you’re hell bent on saving your battery, there’s a lot of things you can do which ranges from turning down your brightness to enable low power mode on your iPhone or doze on your droid. Turn off location sharing for apps that don’t need it (which is a good idea regardless). Put the whole thing in Airplane Mode, if you’re feeling really crazy. But stop swiping your apps out of view, because it’s not helping. If anything, it’s making it worse.

The New Android Emojis Are Going To Be A Little Less Ridiculous image

The New Android Emojis Are Going To Be A Little Less Ridiculous

The difference between Android and iOS emojis has been a cause for concern over recent years. So much so it makes communication difficult at times particularly on the android side which most people believe have it worse in the emoji wars... But all that is set to change.

Google has announced a series of updates as part of its latest Android N preview, but we can skip past the new 3D rendering API and launcher shortcuts and head straight to the real news, which is that Android will finally deploy emoji that look like actual people. Did i hear you say yay?

If you own an iPhone, you might look at me mad thinking “what else do emojis look like?” well, while you see a bald, yellow, blob-like figure on your phone,  your Android friend sees a rather unappealing figure: It’s like a parade of minimalist Minions to be clear.

Henceforth, Android emoji will ditch the melting yellow Buddhas in favour of emoji that look like actual humans. Imagine! It will also allow for skin tone variations just like the iOS.

For what it’s worth, right now this only applies to Android N, which means Android smartphone owners won’t actually see it for some time still, even if they have a Nexus device. If they have something slower to receive updates—which is basically anything else—it could be years.

Hello iPhone 4: Apple Is Returning To An All-Glass Back In 2017 image

Hello iPhone 4: Apple Is Returning To An All-Glass Back In 2017

This year’s iPhone will most likely not be called iPhone 7.

That is because the 10th year anniversary of the original iPhone is this year thus making apple push their huge rumoured redesign to 2017. In a new report by KGI’s Ming-Chi Kuo, the reliable Apple analyst claims that the iPhone will be seeing a major redesign in 2017, dropping the iconic aluminum casing for an all-glass enclosure with AMOLED screen.

Kuo believes that Apple will be moving to an all-glass enclosure, dropping aluminum completely as it will no longer appear modern or fresh in 2017. Apple’s smartphone competitors are also adopting aluminum designs in droves, making it more likely Apple will want to differentiate with entirely new materials.

Kuo does not elaborate on how Apple will make the next iPhone entirely out of glass, so currently the specifics of the drastic redesign will have to be left to the imagination. Apple used glass for the iPhone 4/4s front and back, but this was sandwiched together with a stainless steel band. It’s currently unclear how an iPhone could be constructed primarily out of glass.

The new glass phone will also feature a new AMOLED display panel, which will be thinner and lighter to compensate for the slight weight increase of glass compared with metal exteriors. Kuo does not believe that drop test issues will be a roadblock in Apple’s decision making, given the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s already relied heavily on glass front and back. Last week, Apple reportedly reached a $2.6 billion agreement with Samsung to supply OLED panels for iPhone displays.

10 Health Benefits Of Consuming Marijuana image

10 Health Benefits Of Consuming Marijuana

4/20 is upon us. If you don’t know what four-twenty is then i'll educate you a little.

4/20 is the day that has been embraced by pot smokers over the past years as weed day. It is day where people who identify with the cannabis culture light one up – recovering addict or not.

With the decriminalization of marijuana and the legalization of weed for medicinal or recreational purpose in some parts of the world, lighting a blunt in public doesn’t seem to raise much alarm but with people being more open to consumption of marijuana, celebrating the annual 4/20 still remains a big deal to most pot consumers.

What’s the Origin?

4/20 gets its name from five High school friends collectively called the Waldos in San Rafael, California. The code first came about in the fall of 1971 because the Waldos planned to meet at a statue of Louis Pasteur at the school at 4:20 before they went on an expedition to score some free weed from a plot of marijuana plants abandoned by a Coast Guard service member.

In celebration of 4/20 this year, we run you down a list of things... good things... healthy things cannabis consumption could do to your body. You might be surprised to find out that amongst all the terrible things they say about marijuana consumption, it actually helps a lot if consumed sensibly.

It may help improve lung health and palliate or even reverse carcinogenic effects of tobacco

As published by the American Medical Association in January 2012, marijuana which is believed to be a lung killer actually improves lung capacity. Researchers looking into the risk factors of heart disease tested the lung function of 5,115 young adults over the course of 20 years. Tobacco smokers lost lung function over time, but pot users actually showed an increase in lung capacity.

These could easily be because of the inhalation of weed which requires a longer drag than tobacco.

It controls epileptic seizures

The Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics published in 2003, showed how marijuana extracts helped in controlling seizures by using epileptic rats as test subjects and the results showed conclusively that marijuana does indeed cure epilepsy for about 10 hours depending on the amount taken.

A special chemical found in marijuana stops cancer from spreading

CBD may help prevent cancer from spreading, researchers at California Pacific Medical Center in San Francisco reported in 2007.

According to Business Insider, Cannabidiol stops cancer by turning off a gene called Id-1, the study, published in the journal Molecular Cancer Therapeutics, found. Cancer cells make more copies of this gene than non-cancerous cells, and it helps them spread through the body.

The researchers studied breast cancer cells in the lab that had high expression levels of Id-1 and treated them with cannabidiol. After treatment the cells had decreased Id-1 expression and were less aggressive spreaders.

In "WEED," Gupta also mentioned a few studies in the U.S., Spain, and Israel that suggest the compounds in cannabis could even kill cancer cells.

Proper usage decreases anxiety

Weed when consumed sensibly reduces anxiety. Medical marijuana users claim the drug helps relieve pain and suppress nausea — the two main reasons it's often used to relieve the side effects of chemotherapy.

In 2010, researchers at Harvard Medical School suggested that some of the drug's benefits may actually be from reduced anxiety, which would improve the smoker's mood and act as a sedative in low doses.

THC slows the progression of Alzheimer’s disease

Amyloid plaques are the main precursors of the Alzheimer’s disease. They are formed in the brain and kill off brain cells thus aggravating Alsheimer’s. THC, tetrahydrocannabinol an active component of weed slows down the formation of the amyloid plaques by blocking the enzyme that makes them thus making Alzheimer spread less rapidly.

It improves your metabolism

A study published in the American Journal Of Medicine on April 15, 2013 suggested that pot smokers are skinnier than the average person and have healthier metabolism and reaction to sugars, even though they do end up eating more calories because of the munchies.

Marijuana brings out your creative side

Contrary to stoner stereotypes, marijuana usage has actually been shown to have some positive mental effects, particularly in terms of increasing creativity. Even though people's short-term memories tend to function worse when high, people get better at tests requiring them to come up with new ideas.

One study tested participants on their ability to come up with different words related to a concept, and found that using cannabis allowed people to come up with a greater range of related concepts, seeming "to make the brain better at detecting those remote associations that lead to radically new ideas," according to Wired.

Other researchers have found that some participants improve their "verbal fluency," their ability to come up with different words, while using marijuana.

Part of this increased creative ability may come from the release of dopamine in the brain, lessening inhibitions and allowing people to feel more relaxed, giving the brain the ability to perceive things differently.

Weed helps the brain recover from a stroke

Research from the University of Nottingham shows that marijuana may help protect the brain from damage caused by stroke, by reducing the size of the area affected by the stroke — at least in rats, mice, and monkeys.

This isn't the only research that has shown neuro-protective effects from cannabis. Some research shows that the plant may help protect the brain after other traumatic events, like concussions.

Marijuana helps in fighting alcoholism

Marijuana is safer than alcohol. That's not to say it's completely risk free, but it's much less addictive and doesn't cause nearly as much physical damage.

Disorders like alcoholism involve disruptions in the endocannabinoid system. Because of that, some people think cannabis might help patients struggling with those disorders.

According to Business Insider, research in Harm Reduction Journal shows that some people use marijuana as a less harmful substitute for alcohol, prescription drugs, and other illegal drugs. Some of the most common reasons for patients to make that substitution are the less adverse side effects from marijuana and the fact that it is less likely to cause withdrawal problems.

Some people do become psychologically dependent on marijuana, and this doesn't mean that it's a cure for substance abuse problems. But, from a harm-reduction standpoint, it can help.

Weed helps relieve pain caused from chemotherapy and stimulates appetite

One of the most well-known medical uses of marijuana is for people going through chemotherapy.

Cancer patients being treated with chemo suffer from painful nausea, vomiting, and loss of appetite. This can cause additional health complications.

Marijuana can help reduce these side effects, alleviating pain, decreasing nausea, and stimulating the appetite. There are also multiple FDA-approved cannabinoid drugs that use THC, the main active chemical in marijuana, for the same purposes.

With all these said, i wish you a happy 4/20. Have fun and light one up.....or two.

Finding The Suit That Suits image

Finding The Suit That Suits

During suit shopping, making the right selection can become a daunting task. Suits, unlike every other piece of clothing aren’t worn too often and thus when worn, one should try to nail it. Most people buy suits without first considering the most important thing; their body frame. If you’re one of such people, today is your lucky day. We will be guiding you on what to avoid and what to embrace when it comes to getting the perfect suit.

TALL AND SKINNY MEN

If you’re above 6 feet then you’ve definitely been called tall once or twice in your lifetime. If you have then this section of our post is for you.

Heavier Fabrics

Because you are tall and frail, you will need to compensate for that, somehow. Avoid lighter fabrics; they hang on your body like a thin layer making you look all the more thin.

Lighter Colours

Lighter colours tend to make things appear more bulky than they are. Avoid darker colours; they have a slimming effect and we do not want that, do we? Also avoid pinstripes, we’d make that clearer as we go.

Higher Button Stance

Get suits with 3 buttons, they will look better because they have both height and length proportional to the body.

Full Rise Pants

Tall guys have long legs so their pants shouldn’t make them appear any taller. The best way to achieve this is to look for long rise pants. The rise of a pant is the distance between the waistband and the crotch. It strikes a balance between upper body and legs.

SHORT MEN

We really do not know which height range to put here. In any case, if you wish to appear taller in a suit, follow these few tips.

Subtle Patterns

Suit patterns like the windowpane, herringbone, houndstooth e.t.c. are too loud and will draw attention to your small frame. If you do not know what those are, just go solid.

Vertical Stripes

One of the oldest tricks in the book, the vertical stripes can create an illusion of lengthening a short frame

One Button

Suits with only one button are the best option for a short person. A single button, wherever placed will give beautiful balance to the suit hence makes your frame look more proportional.

Low Rise Pants

Unlike the tall fellow, a full rise pant will give you off as short at instant look. Try to go for a low rise pant.

BULKY MEN

Bulky men aren’t always muscular but these tips will work great for both.

Light Weight Fabrics

Bulky men whether muscular or not, have a fuller frame than the next guy. Avoid getting heavy fabrics that just add to all that body.

Dark Colours

Darker colours are slimming and it’s even more obvious here because suits consist of the same colour for top as bottom, creating a homogenous outfit that makes you look visually taller and more slender instead of cutting you in half and drawing attention to your belly or legs. For best results, go dark navy or black.

Solid or Vertical Stripes

Solids work well in creating a slender look but if you’re the fancy fellow, you can mix it up by sometimes going with the vertical stripes, this lengthens a person’s appearance and gives you a stylish edge.

If you’re a weird mix of any of these categories, i.e. short and skinny, big and tall, just mix and match these tips to suit your suit.

How To Solve Your iPhone Storage Dilemma image

How To Solve Your iPhone Storage Dilemma

If you use a 16gb iPhone then you’re probably familiar with this popup. Annoying as it gets, there’s really nothing you can do about it; you love those beautiful selfies and God knows you’re not taking down TLOP for some stupid extra megabytes. You’ve probably sworn countless times to get a larger capacity iPhone but when the time comes, they’re just too pricey.

Thankfully, an editor at Reddit found out a hack that frees up as much as 2/3gb on your Apple device without you having to delete any App, song or photo. Isn’t that something?

First, check how much space you have left on your device. You can do this by clicking "Settings" --> "General" --> "Storage & iCloud Usage".

Here’s where the trick starts.

GETTING INTO THE HACK

Go to the movies section of the iTunes store , if you can't find this section just at the bottom of your screen, you will have to change your store location to the United States'. After that, pick a big file to rent – one that's bigger than the amount of space you have left on your phone. Don't worry, you won't have to pay for it (so long as the file is actually big enough).

Click on "Rent" and you will get a notification telling you there isn't enough space on your device to download the film. You'll get a choice to then press "OK" or "Settings".

Click on "Settings" to view your available storage again, and lo and behold, you'll see it's increased.

That's because your iPhone has automatically cleared superfluous junk like cookies, histories and other data from your apps in an attempt to make space for the film. Think of it like a spring clean for your phone.

We tried the trick on an iPhone 6 with Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (a 6GB file), and watched the available storage increase from 130MB to 830MB the first time around. After a second sweep the capacity was beefed up again to 1.5GB.

Waiting for a bit longer before hitting "Settings" on the prompt also appears to result in a more thorough clean.

You can do this multiple times to free up more space... So there you have it, you don’t need to delete those jams after all.

Ericsson Shows Us What 5G Would Feel Like image

Ericsson Shows Us What 5G Would Feel Like

We’ve seen GPRS become EDGE, we’ve seen EDGE become 3G, we’ve seen 4G and 4G LTE but is the world ready for 5G?

Ericsson-LG showed the world what 5G could be like in Korea last Thursday. It was the first time the network equipment manufacturers showcased their network in Korea and boy did they showcase their network. The 5G network equipment used for the demonstration offered a peak download speed of 26 gigabit per second, around 350 times faster than the current Long-Term Evolution network.

Patrick Johansson, the chief executive of Ericsson-LG, talks about the 5G network at the firm’s headquarters in Anyang City, Gyeonggi Province. (Ericsson-LG)

“I feel proud of the Ericsson-LG researchers at the Anyang R&D center who are contributing to achieving technical innovation for both Korean and global customers,” said Patrick Johansson, the chief executive of Ericsson-LG in Anyang City where the demonstration was held.

He also added that the company would work together with Korean telecom firms for further promoting the 5G network.

“Ericsson, which marks the 140th anniversary of its foundation this year and introduced the first magneto telephone switch and a telephone in 1896 in Korea, has been playing a leading role in the Korean telecom market,” said the CEO.

NLC Strike:The One Day We Need Lagosians To Be Irresponsible, They Are Not image

NLC Strike:The One Day We Need Lagosians To Be Irresponsible, They Are Not

The Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC) gave the government till 11:59 Tuesday to revert back to the old fuel prices following the government’s decision to increase fuel prices by 67%. The NLC threatened to force another nationwide strike – something every Nigerian is all too familiar with.

Given the same precursor, this strike was supposed to be as huge as the 2012 #OccupyNigeria movement which saw the nation shut down for weeks following former president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan’s decision on the 1st of January 2012 to remove the subsidy on petroleum products but when Wednesday came, we were shocked to see that public schools, banks, markets and many government offices resumed work in various parts of the country even in the nation’s capital.

How did Lagos take the strike?

Lagos is undoubtedly Nigeria’s powerhouse and home to some of the most hardworking people in Africa. There’s hardly ever any time to rest in Lagos and once anything bad befalls Nigeria, Lagosians are the first to feel its impact. This has been the tale for over 5 months now as Lagosians have been bearing the brunt of Nigeria’s petroleum and power crisis. You definitely cannot catch a break here in Lagos and with prices of commodities and standard of living increasing virtually every day, Lagosians have been clamouring for any form of rest to keep their minds away from the horrible reality you are exposed to on the streets of Lagos.

So how did Lagos take the strike? Banks were packed, with workers reportedly resuming work as early as 7am. Customers not sure of the situation arrived just around the same time to make sure they get their transactions done before the NLC showed up at the scene.

Activities in Ojuelegba, Mushin and Ikorodu road remained as normal as can be and although later in the day there were reports of protests breaking out in Ikeja, Yaba and Ikorodu, the business situation in Lagos didn’t change much.

We can understand Nigerians’ hesitation to take part in the strike as the government termed the strike action “illegal” and vowed to invoke the “no work, no pay” action on those involved if caught.

Whatsapp Video Calls Will Soon Be A Thing image

Whatsapp Video Calls Will Soon Be A Thing

Whatsapp, the largest IM community has wrestled its way from viber to BBM and now wants to take on Video calling challenge similar to iMessage’s Facetime. There have been reports which suggest that Whatsapp could in fact launch a Video call feature later this year in one of its updates. The date has not been confirmed as this feature is just in its Beta testing phase but the idea of video calling without having to go through the stress of creating a Skype profile is refreshing.

From leaked images circulating on the internet, the way this feature would work would be simple, a simple click on the call feature which already exists initiates a pop up which prompts you to select which type of call you would be using; video or audio.

With more than a billion active monthly users, the addition or supposed addition of this feature doesn’t surprise anyone. If you can get all your social communication done on one platform then why use two?

Whatsapp having introduced Whatsapp Web, enabled user-share documents and end-to-end encryption are not looking to slow down on their upgrades this year with this new feature going to be enabled on both iOS and Android platforms.

This upgrade is available in the latest beta version of the app which can be downloaded in apk mirror website but with a lot of complains as to why the calls don’t connect to several destinations, we probably wouldn’t be seeing this feature anytime soon.

Lost His Wife, Lost His Job – Teebillz, WYD? image

Lost His Wife, Lost His Job – Teebillz, WYD?

Nigerian rapper, CQD has apparently sacked his manager TeeBillz. Tunji Balogun who was in the news some weeks ago is in the news again and like the last time, not for a good reason. TeeBillz who has been under the covers since attempting suicide last month has just been fired by his artiste CDQ who claims his decision to sack Tunji wasn’t personal in anyway but strictly business and to put it simply, TeeBillz’s situation wasn’t helping with that.

Speaking with Hip tv, CDQ had this to say about his decision.

“About me and Teebillz, I mean, me and Teebillz are still good. Still cool, we are family.. But I’m straight like that, I am real. I have not been able to talk to him for a very long time – since the incident that happened. I tried to message him but it wasn’t going through and everything. So i had to move on with my life.. You know.

I mean, I’ve got ambition that I’m chasing, so for no reason would i allow anything to lock that down. I am a goal getter and I can’t allow anything to slow me down. So that’s it! Me and Teebillz are still cool, we are still family. Anytime we see, we would still holla, but at least, I’m a street guy, I have got to move, gotta move, gotta move. That is what matters the most. My career comes first before anything else.”

Can We Talk About How BrymO’s Klĭtôrĭs Touches The Right Places?

Klitoris? Klitoris? “What in the name....” those were the exact words i blurted out when I found out via his twitter page that was going to be the name of his third studio album. Klĭtôrĭs – A title so striking you are guaranteed to listen to the album when it finally hits the streets or at least keep tabs on it.

Being a lover of quality music, Olawale Ashimi has shown us once again how far he has come from the guy who practically singlehandedly resuscitated Ice prince’s already dying career with his feature on Oleku. It would seem a lifetime ago when he released Ara.

Soul snatching, absolutely riveting and all round beautiful to the ears, Klĭtôrĭs could as well be up there with Asa’s Bed of stone.

“The greatness of the naked Klitoris lies in the contents as it was in its unique way able to stretch beyond the soul/ballad like genre parameters. This album in all its greatness is totally beautiful.” – Tooxclusive.

An album dedicated entirely to a woman, Klitoris makes its way from Naked, a song which indicated Olawale could be facing some personal issue he was trying to sort out while constantly reminding us how feeble and ultimately worthless the things of the world is “After all, we came into the world naked”.

Dem de go, my personal favourite of the Klitoris album is a thought provoking song open to various degrees of interpretation all surrounding a dispute of some sort, hopefully not about the current state of the nation.

Happy Memories saw BrymO return to a theme he continually experiments with in all of his albums – love. He talks about a love that is way past its time and all he had to show for it – memories.

Ko S’aya mi is a song about a girl so beautiful Olawale just had to ask her to be his wife. The song started out with heavy praise on how God tastefully crafted Anjola then all which followed was Mr. Ashimi asking for her hand in marriage.

Alajo Shomolu almost Fela reincarnated, BrymO tried to bring back Fela with this brilliant mid-tempo Afro Beat track made to remind struggling people that hard work pays off. Just like he did on the following track Something Good Is Happening, BrymO really does well with these two, modulating his voice in an almost Fela way but modern and with more finesse.

Billion Naira Dream as heart warming as a track can be, what caught my attention was the title... Billion “Naira” dream... now, you would think “what’s in the title?” well, if it wasn’t BrymO who sang this song, you probably would be seeing the dollar take the place of the Naira here. This shows us again what type of artiste BrymO is; a true Nigerian passionate about making a difference here.

Let’s make love couldn’t have been made any clearer by the track title.

Mirage This ballad emphasizes on the versatility of the artiste as he gives us a taste from the other side displaying incredible vocal strength. The Way The Cookie Crumbles electro - Caribbean fusion guaranteed to get you off your feet and swaying.

The Girl From New York BrymO talks about a girl he met in New York who tried to “guage” him and how much money he had, being 1:13 minutes, Olawale couldn’t have picked a subtler way to end this project.

Klĭtôrĭs emphasizes the artiste’s growth over the years, his versatility as he took a tour round a couple of genres, and his ability to tell a good story without getting lost in the music.

"Dele na my boy, Dele na my boy" Dele Momodu doesn't seem to be bothered

Dele Momodu, Iconic journalist while speaking with Joy tv, Ghana spoke about Davido's comment in on of his songs "Dele na my boy" apparently, the old man sees nothing wrong with this and claims David only wants to sell a record.

"David is my child, all he is doing is to sell records"

In the full interview, here is what he says.

“I have never responded to any of Davido’s comments, this is the first time I would do that. After ‘Osinachi remix’ video, I called his father… Success is a very tough thing to manage, and your fans can mislead you sometimes. I know that what he is doing is what most artists do all over the world, to sell their record. so you have to create controversy. I don’t think David ill see me face-to-face and say I’m his boy. I’m his father.

Even the video… That’s what is selling his record, and I’m very comfortable with it. while will i fight my own child? I can’t fight him. Now, we’re connected together for life through that baby. I can never fight David. He is too small to me.

He didn’t call me a thief , he called me a boy. Why should I react to something that’s not true, do I look like anybody’s boy? That would mean I’m childish”

The Guy Codes Every Guy Must Be Familiar With image

The Guy Codes Every Guy Must Be Familiar With

According to Urban Dictionary, the bro code or guy code as I’d rather call it is a sacred code held between Bros. It doesn’t answer to logic or reasoning and isn’t open to any form of re-evaluation, it just is what it is... You follow it because it says so, not because you think it’s the right thing to do.

The code provides Bros with the necessary information on how to behave properly with your homies and to break this code with any of your Bros is considered Bro Treason and its consequences dire.

The Guy code

  • If a girl inquires about another bro’s sexual history, a bro shall honour her request by playing dumb – The code of silence.
  • A bro never lets his bro get a tattoo of a girl’s name.
  • A bro never wears pink.
  • Unless a bro is married with kids, a bro is never to be seen wearing his phone on a belt clip.
  • A bro never brings more than two other bros to a party.
  • A bro automatically enhances another bro’s job description when introducing him to a female.
  • No sleeping with your bro’s ex.
  • Even in a fight to the death, a bro never hits another bro in the groin.
  • If a bro for whatever reason becomes aware of another bro’s anniversary with a chick, he shall endeavour to make that information available to his bro to save him from lady drama.
  • When using the urinal, a bro is only allowed to look at the wall, avoid small talk, and keep at least one urinal gap.
  • The bond between a man and a man is stronger than the bond between a man and a woman because on the average, men are stronger than women – That’s just science.

Coldplay’s New Album: Even Worse Than The Former image

Coldplay’s New Album: Even Worse Than The Former

“When you try your best but you don’t succeed.”

Coldplay has had a lot of success over the last decade or so. Arguably the most popular active band in the world at the moment, A head full of dreams could be the end of an illustrious career as front-man Chris Martin warned. The last album (Ghost stories) left Coldplay fans dissatisfied and craving something better from the multi-award winning quartet. This prompted Chris Martin and co to release A head full of dreams an album that quite frankly keeps genre-morphing all the way.

The whole world has been waiting for another masterpiece from the British superstars and so, with rejuvenated hopes, Coldplay released their 7th studio album A head full of Dreams on Friday, December 4, a day after the release and a whole lot of us are still waiting. Every Coldplay album seems to come with something new and different from what the world has come to know from them – Trying to filter an array of complex sounds and musical representations into something the audience will love. This has always worked for them, at least up until Mylo Xyloto was done and dusted, it’s been downhill ever since..

A head full of dreams led its campaign with a gob smacking hit single “Adventure of a lifetime” which we doubt would have been possible if Daft Punk didn’t release “Get Lucky”. Get lucky, Coldplay did with this song appealing to almost everyone. Somebody get these lads a chrome helmet.

Coldplay received helping hands from the amazingly talented Beyoncé on “Hymn for the weekend”, Tove Lo on “Fun” and Barrack Obama. Yes, the first Interlude "Kaleidoscope" uses poet Coleman Barks and a sample of Barrack Obama’s rendition of “Amazing Grace” from his eulogy at the Emanuel A.M.E. Church for a pastor who was one of eight killed in last summer’s Charleston church shooting in South Carolina.

Overall, the album is just another whiny compilation and an average representation of the Coldplay we have come to know and love. Sure, there are a few great moments on the album that will have your heart soar but not too worry, a disappointment of equal proportion is close by.

Game Of Thrones: Arya Stark's Fate, Three Equally Terrifying Theories image

Game Of Thrones: Arya Stark's Fate, Three Equally Terrifying Theories

Warning: this post contains spoilers from the sixth season of this Tv show.

If you thought season five signalled the ending of funeral arrangements in the Stark family, think again. The last episode of the tv show saw Arya (Maisie Williams) brutally stabbed by the waif after the nameless girl snuck up on her disguised as an old woman. Arya did manage an escape by throwing herself helplessly over the side of the bridge and staying totally submerged under water till the waif presumed her dead and left. With several stab wounds, she managed to drag herself back into the streets of Braavos where a couple of things could happen to her.

A couple theories have sprung from nowhere as regards this issue as some believe Arya’s actions before the incident suggested she saw it coming and played her cards beforehand. Reddit user iPlayNL wrote

“We are led to believe Arya got stabbed, however there are some problems with what happened on this episode, First off, Arya seemed different from the start. Her scene with the merchant, her walk all seemed very confident, which is unusual after the events this season. … Also, where did she get the money from? Why was she not carrying Needle [her sword] with her? How come after all she knew about the faceless man she just stood there on a bridge not paying any attention?”

Expanding on this postulate, another Redditor gave us Arya’s interaction with Lady Crane as an indication that she planned it all along with the help of the actress to pull off an escape believable enough to fool the waif.

“So I believe she has 1 or more pigs blood pouches around her body. She knows where and how to do this because last episode… she saved the actress. The actress then provided her help to make the scene on the bridge large and realistic. … She then leaves the water and leaves a trail of blood…. to lead her [enemies] to her. Expecting an unarmed (because she choose not to show needle during the fight scene) and injured girl; they will instead walk down a dark alley and be met with an uninjured girl who knows how to fight in the dark and carrying a sword.” Passingwisdom wrote.

Now here is another “Angu”

Some believe the person stabbed wasn’t even Arya but rather Jaqen H’ghar to begin with. Pointing to the obvious fact that Arya must have been with her sword, froschkonig wrote “She wasn’t aware that [Jaqen] said not to make her suffer, so making a big show of her suffering doesn’t make sense. It was [Jaqen] testing the waif, and by stabbing her in the stomach and not just slashing the throat, she disobeyed orders just like arya did. [Jaqen] is gonna lay some faceless justice down.”

Now these are just theories but whatever the case turns out to be, episode eight is going to be grand.

Muhammad Ali: Death Wins This Round But Legends Never Die image

Muhammad Ali: Death Wins This Round But Legends Never Die

There isn't a way i can accurately express the pain i felt when i logged into my twitter and saw Muhammad Ali tributes on my "Incase you missed it". I didn't know what to feel, could it be that the great Ali had taken a hit he couldn't recover from?

It took me some time to learn to appreciate this great man but alas, my dad made sure I accorded Muhammad Ali the respect due before he met the same inevitable fate as Ali. I almost immediately remembered the witty quotes... the trash talking... the Rope-a-dope... everything that made Ali a boxer unlike any other.

He wasn't only good with his fists, his words hurt equally also.

Here are my best 18 quotes from the greatest.

1. "Float like a butterfly, sting like a bee. His hands can't hit what his eyes can't see. Now you see me, now you don't. George thinks he will, but I know he won't.

2. "Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth."

3. "I'm young; I'm handsome; I'm fast. I can't possibly be beat."

4. "Don’t count the days; make the days count."

5. “If my mind can conceive it, and my heart can believe it—then I can achieve it."

6. “It's hard to be humble when you're as great as I am."

7. “It isn’t the mountains ahead to climb that wear you out; it’s the pebble in your shoe.”

8. “If you even dream of beating me you'd better wake up and apologize.”

9. “Braggin' is when a person says something and can’t do it. I do what I say.”

10. "I am the greatest, I said that even before I knew I was."

11. "Only a man who knows what it is like to be defeated can reach down to the bottom of his soul and come up with the extra ounce of power it takes to win when the match is even."

12. "I'm so mean, I make medicine sick."

13. "I should be a postage stamp. That's the only way I'll ever get licked."

14. “Impossible is just a big word thrown around by small men who find it easier to live in the world they’ve been given than to explore the power they have to change it. Impossible is not a fact. It’s an opinion. Impossible is not a declaration. It’s a dare. Impossible is potential. Impossible is temporary. Impossible is nothing.”

15. “He who is not courageous enough to take risks will accomplish nothing in life.”

16. "A man who views the world the same at 50 as he did at 20 has wasted 30 years of his life.”

17. “If they can make penicillin out of moldy bread, they can sure make something out of you.”

18. "I shook up the world. Me! Whee!"

Born Cassius Marcellus Clay Jr., Muhammad Ali fought against a lot of things; men, the government, racism and more recently, Parkinson. If a life was a movie then it certainly is this man's life. From winning the  heavyweight title to going against the government to being stripped of his boxing titles and been denied of a boxing licence, an ordinary man would quit... an ordinary man, but this man wasn't one.

He got up and with his return even more glorious winning the world heavyweight title two more times and till today, remains the only professional boxer to do so three times.

His notable fights include: "Fight of the Century", "Super Fight II" and the "Thrilla in Manila" versus his rival Joe Frazier, the first Liston fight, and "The Rumble in the Jungle" versus George Foreman.

I'll leave you with 10 of his best knockouts, not knockdowns, knockouts cause when Ali sends you down, you stay down.

Rest well, Ali.

Rest well, Legend.

Dawn Of Justice, A Visual Spectacle image

Dawn Of Justice, A Visual Spectacle

Before i begin, i would like to apologise because what you’re about to read contains spoilers you could do without if you haven’t seen the movie but i guess that’s part of the reason you are here; to see what you will be getting yourself into if you’re thinking of purchasing a ticket.

We’ve been spoiled by the Marvel franchise over recent years and the first hour and a half of this movie shows you why we shouldn’t take that for granted. DC fans have had to wait years to see their beloved Justice League take centre stage and go toe to toe with Marvel’s Avengers. With Dawn of Justice signalling the beginning of a new era of DC movies, one would assume it’s going to be DC DC DC from here.

A movie that quite frankly begins just after over one hour of screen time, Dawn of justice is a slow burner. I personally had a hard time watching the first half of this movie which shuffles between lengthy scenes scarce of any proper dialogue which wouldn’t be so bad if we weren’t inside Batman’s hallucinations half of the time.

The movie begins with Thomas and Martha Wayne’s funeral then turns focus to Superman’s glorious beginning and reign as “God”, a title that received full criticism right away from people who barely managed to stay alive from the large scale destruction caused by Clark Kent during his first few moments on earth. Then comes Lois Lane, award winning journalist who is willing to go to the ends of the world trying to prove to the world that her superhero boyfriend isn’t who the world thinks he is.

It began to look like there wasn’t going to be any action in this one and i remember thinking to myself how bad this review was going to make the movie look, but one stupid Wayne financial employee, one court hearing, one silly Jessie Eisenberg character and 5 cool Superman landings was all it took for before Bruce realizes he had to end Superman’s reign. Realizing this, it was time for a trademark Batman scene showing Billionaire Bruce lift some weights and do a few pull-ups like he was fighting a mere mortal.

It seems like a mismatch if you’re going to think about it logically with Clark being in his prime and Bruce in his 40’s but trust Superman to rely so much on his physical strength, he forgets to think at all... For the love of God, if you’re going to get hit by gaseous Kryptonite the first time, one would think you should evade the next shot instead of trying to catch it, you’re certainly fast enough.

Seeing this movie really made me think about how awesome the possibility of Man of Steel 2 would have been instead of this - what’s the word now... over-glorified superhero matchup which gets a little irritating when Batman completely steals the show.

Fortunately, things would get interesting and soon too as Batman puts aside his bruised ego to team up with Superman and Wonder woman when Lex creates Doomsday from the remains of Zod. A move that probably saved this movie as the whole “Batman vs Superman” thing was shoved aside pretty quick... If you follow the Justice League animations, you wouldn’t be surprised to see Batman completely missing from the fight the instant there’s an extra-terrestrial superpower on board. I wouldn’t be too critic if i said the only thing good about this movie are the fight scenes which got better as the movie progressed.

Lois Lane got a little too much screen time, Wonder Woman had a bit more than the cameo appearance we were promised which i’m forever grateful for cause the movie looked like it could use another hero.

Apart from the first half of this movie being extremely painful to watch, there is the issue of Lex Luthor, who i’m afraid doesn’t fit well into any version of Lex Luthor i’m familiar with... he just seemed to be off, too edgy. Starting off with a few good lines and a villainous laugh that got my interest from the start, he became less appealing very quickly.

Then for the grandmaster of all movie spoilers in the history of theatre, Superman probably dies in this movie...Yes, he actually dies... pierced straight through the chest by Doomsday meters away from a foot long Kryptonite. The movie ends with his funeral by the way.

I wouldn’t be so quick to compare this with the Avengers or Iron Man 3, i mean, the acting was top notch and the writers could have done a better job but coming from Man of steel, you could say it’s a step in the right direction. If i’m going to recommend this to a friend, it would have to be because of its visual splendour and kickass fight scenes and hey, it’s the only time Batman and Superman go head on so i guess you just have to see this.

Overall, if you think of BvS and its effect on the DC franchise you will feel slightly encouraged when you take a look at the line-up of Superhero movies coming from them and with this level of visual beauty, up is the way to go.

Fashion Thanks The Gays image

Fashion Thanks The Gays

My friend, Jen only just got back from the States after an eight year absence and since we are real close, I allowed her crash at mine until she decided to get her own place. I hadn’t seen her since junior secondary school and although we had kept in touch throughout her stay, I wanted to spend as much time with her as possible (there’s a chance I had a crush). We talked long into the night about everything; her exes, school, the city, internships, horrible bosses, wonderful bosses, sex (yup, we were that close) and then she hit me with a bombshell; she was gay.

At first when she said it, I thought she might be messing with me as that was a timeless tradition between us. After a good laugh, I asked her if she meant it and wasn’t playing a prank on me and she was affirmative. I was left speechless; shocked beyond words and the look on my face was spared from her view thankfully, cause it might have hurt her. It was a mix of horror and shock like I’d just seen a ghost or a naked Caitlyn Jenner.

Because you are tall and frail, you will need to compensate for that, somehow. Avoid lighter fabrics; they hang on your body like a thin layer making you look all the more thin.

We got to the bottom of it and she explained how she had made out with her roommate at a party in freshman year and hadn’t been able to get enough of women since. It was shocking how she’d kept it from me so long but I began to look out for all the tell-tale signs I’d missed. Her tweets had taken on a different and cryptic direction since then but I didn’t read too much into it. Her Instagram posts had also markedly changed but that still didn’t seem a big deal until now. The most obvious change had to be her style and even now I had always wondered why there was such a huge transformation in her style. It all made sense now.

Gay people almost always have a distinct style and dare I say, better fashion sense than most straight folks. From scarves to the finest cut jeans, the gays always do bring the swag. Thanks to unwritten societal rules, most straight folk have an embargo placed on what’s suitable to wear and a somewhat limited fashion scope. With gay people, all rules go out the window and the only concern is looking as stunning as possible; whether as a guy or girl. They seem to set a lot of fashion trends and a lot of celebrities are opting for gay stylists, hairdressers, personal shopper mostly cause like me they know if there’s one thing a gay person kills at; it’s being stylish.

Of course, this doesn’t mean all gay people are stylish or that all straight men are boorish and lack any sense of style, no it doesn’t. This is simply a gay appreciation post for their overall boundaries breaking fashion. Sure, you may think gay people get a lot of things wrong (especially their sexual preference) but here’s one thing they almost always get right. Some gay guys do tend to be a lot more flamboyant with their style and I don’t expect any straight males picking up tips from them anytime soon.

So, I guess that concludes this post. Thanks gays for scarves, prints, patterns, colour blocking, blazers, cargo shorts, ripped jeans, skinny jeans (they probably was tryna show their junk with this) and countless other fashion items and trends you may or may not have set.

Disclaimer:

This post was a gay appreciation post and their influence on the world of fashion may have been overstated. Also, if you find this post irritating, revolting, disgusting because it appreciates homosexuals, Get over yourself! It’s none of your business what anyone does with their junk.

Game Of Thrones Recap:Arya's Fate Revealed image

Game Of Thrones Recap:Arya's Fate Revealed

Picking up from where we Game of Thrones left you last week, Sunday night’s episode was rather dominated by intense confrontations and as usual, a little bit of blood here and there. Where do we begin with this?

Arya

Last week, we were handed a series of possible outcomes from our friends on Reddit, surprisingly, one of them panned out accurate at least to a fair point. Arya did indeed get stabbed, manoeuvred her way out of danger and ended up fighting the waif in total darkness but not as straightforward as we presumed. Nearly bleeding to death, she took a stop at Lady Crane’s show and got the help she needed at her house only to wake up the next day to find her helper in a pool of blood – the waif had come to complete the task at hand and Arya had no place to hide, she had to run... run far away to her hideout where she had tucked away her sword for the longest time. Totally secluded and in darkness, Arya did what she was trained to do; take down the waif.

Now a girl has a name, her name is Arya Starkof Winterfell and she’s going home.

Jamie Lannister and Brienne of Tarth were reunited in what was supposed to be a night to forget as fate made them temporary enemies who were to fight to the death. Fortunately, a bold confrontation between Jamie and Lord Edmure Tully saw them remain friends for the time being.

Into the woods

After the bloody massacre last week, the Hound set out to find justice the only way he knows. He sought and found the outlaw members on the brotherhood, killed all four with an axe and later helped hang the rest.

Meeren

Honestly, I’m getting a little tired of Daenerys and her over the top entrances, I’m watching this episode and thinking “Oh God, not again”

Just when Tyrion thought he had the city under control, the slave masters decide to make an angry comeback to disrupt Grey Worm and Missandei making jokes.

King’s Landing

It’s always one mess or the other here. The queen mother finally unleashes Gregor "The Mountain" Clegane on one of those spiritual fanatics and of course it ended in blood, not just any sort of death, the Mountain sort of death, the head bashing, eye popping, head smashing sort. This definitely will attract some form of punishment but one can hardly tell what its going to be considering how things over there ended when Tommen calls an unexpected meeting in the throne room but banishes his mother to the gallery.

iOS 10 Is Here And Its Worthy Of The Milestone Figure image

iOS 10 Is Here And Its Worthy Of The Milestone Figure

The new apple iOS 10 is available in its beta stage today but what does it mean for its users?

The update was announced during the company’s WWDC 2016 keynote. The update contains some impressive improvement especially in the iMessage division for both mobile and tablet users alike.

If you’re in a rush, here’s a 2 minute video of what the upgrade contains courtesy Techradar.

Of all the changes made, the one people seem to relate well to is the fact that with the new OS, you can delete any app, yes, even those in-built apps you never actually use.

If you have iOS 10 beta, you can remove these apps from your Home screen:

Calculator, Calendar, Compass, FaceTime, Find My Friends , Home, iBooks , iCloud Drive, iTunes Store, Mail, Maps, News, Notes, Podcasts

Even those really annoying ones.

Reminders

Stocks

Tips

Other new features include the new lockscreen that comes simpler and better than any of the previous version. It features a raise to wake tech which unlocks your mobile device when you hit the fast TouchID home button.

Better lockscreen notification which breaks down notifications into bubbles and uses 3D touch to show hidden menu options much like what the latest generation of Apple users enjoy.

Clear all notification button is now available. If you have ever had to delete all your notifications on the previous OS, you’d know what a horrible waste of precious time this exercise is. Just hard press over the little "x" icon within the redesigned (and now dedicated) notifications pulldown menu and tap the "clear all" box that pops up.

Sleek new Control Center that looks a lot better than the previous iOS, the iOS 10 control center fixes the clustered mess that Apple made before now, segmenting each feature appropriately, from the Airdrop to the now playing and the night shift.

Even looks better with music.

A new lockscreen widget now lets you see how your day goes. All since older versions of Apple’s OS, swiping up from the bottom right of your lockscreen automatically takes you to the camera but here’s the new thing, swiping up from the bottom left shows you Apple’s “Today widget” which lets you see your fitness, health and sports update once activated. It’s not as customisable as Androids but it’s a step in the right direction.

Better Siri: Two billion requests a week go through Siri, and it's now going to do so much more, according to Apple. With that, they announced that iOS 10 will open up Siri to third-party developers.

Very soon, Siri would be able to say things like “Remind Bukky on Whatsapp to bring the stew out of the fridge” and just in the same manner, Siri would be able to take commands along the same line.

Also, Siri would be saying a lot less “Sorry, i can’t...” this is all thanks to Apple’s new intense API which functions just as well in other languages.

iMessage improvements

The all new iMessage comes with a lot of inprovements, imagine typing a sentence and then having the emoji replaceable words highlighted because according to Apple, Emojis make texting better.

That’s just one, emojis can be sent 3x bigger, and now we have emotion texts which lets you send texts which now appear in bubbles. They pop up depending on the mood you’re trying to text in, really slow for a more sad text and faster for a loud shout but it all depends on you, you control the motion.

You can also use "invisible ink" that requires the message receiver to slide their finger over a text or photo. It'll be either a nice surprise, or horrific shock from friends. You decide

You can now send handwritten texts via iMessage also, pretty cool... even allowable are hand drawn smileys.

Although, it’s in its beta stage and Apple is testing, one thing is sure, it’s going to come with a lot of bugs but it’s going to be worth it.

Twitter Gives In To Self-Absorption And Now Lets You Retweet Yourself image

Twitter Gives In To Self-Absorption And Now Lets You Retweet Yourself

The new twitter update drops the dot-@, usernames and attachments from the 140-character limit, and now finally lets you retweet your own tweets but you can already tell which new feature is getting all the attention.

Ever felt like your tweet didn’t bang as much as you intended, don’t worry, with this new twitter, you can always increase your blast radius after dropping those bomb tweets.

Before you shove this aside as yet another narcissistic and self glorifying tweak by another social network, you should know that this is an incredible power to have if you own a small business you are trying to promote. You no longer have to rely on friends to amplify your tweets when you can do so regularly yourself.

While some twitter users wait for the elusive "edit" button, others are running wild with this new feature, some think it's a pretty useless feature likened to cyber masturbation.

On security, the company has taken the block button more seriously with blocked users not being able to see tweets from their blockers even if they are quoted or retweeted, a feature you probably would get to experience if you retweet your tweets one too many times.

Kratos Is Back Again And This Time With A Son

Two days ago at SONY's E3 2016 conference, the company revealed a new God Of War developed by Sony Santa Monica. The game takes inspiration from Norse mythology and with the game's soundtrack composed by Bear McCreary, the composer behind Battlestar Galactica, The Walking Dead, this new God Of War is a sure hit.

The demo begins with a much older player controlled Kratos teaching his son how to hunt before drifting off to brutal weapon attacks and gory hand to hand combats the franchise is known for. After a dramatic encounter with a dragon, the demo ends with a peaceful father and son moment with our new Kratos and his son whom we don't know his name yet. All we know is he has a bow, an arrow and a knife passed on to him by his mother.

Watch the demo down below and pre-order on Amazon if you like.

Game Of Thrones Recap: The Most Intense Episode Of Anything Yet image

Game Of Thrones Recap: The Most Intense Episode Of Anything Yet

Warning: this post contains spoilers from the sixth season of this Tv show.

The previous episode saw some interesting things happen, particularly with the Stark Girl. If that episode was Ghana Jollof, the episode which aired yesterday is definitely Nigerian for Stark fans. Following what seems like a Stark redemption, this last episode saw viewers bid farewell to one of the most evil things to happen to Tv show lovers since The Walking Dead’s Governor and The X-Files’ Cigarette-Smoking man.

Asides that, there’s a whole lot happening over in Meeren with Daenery’s dishing out one of her usual... You know, smart talk, proud talk, in-the-face-of-death but somehow managing to pull it off sort of scenes.

Meeren

We should kick things off with Meeren where Aunty Daenery’s finally reunites with her people albeit in a rather unwanted circumstance. The masters had come for what they felt was theirs. After consulting or rather condemning Tyrion, they agree to have a peaceful talk with the masters about surrendering. That somehow turned into Daenery’s showing off her dragons, ending the war (which probably just lasted 8 hours anyway) and showing off her newly acquired Dothraki army.

Theon and Yara managed their escape from uncle Eulon. On getting to Meeren where things have calmed down a little, they were met by Tyrion who made sure he got back at Theon for those dwarf jokes he told back in the first season. After they explained their plight and reminding all participants of their parental misfortune, Khaleesi agreed to help them take back the Salt throne in exchange for a few hundred ships and peaceful fellowship with the rest of the kingdoms.

The Royal Pain

Fina-fucking-ly Ramsay gets what’s coming.

Battle ready Jon Snow discussed strategies with Davos before the war knowing well that not only did Ramsay have Rickon prisoner, he had two times as much men as Jon did and the safety of a castle. After an attempt at a peace treaty which Ramsay turned down unsurprisingly, Sansa angrily left uttering these words as she turned away. “You’re going to die tomorrow Lord Bolton, sleep well”

For the first time, I agreed with Lady Sansa, she meant it... Then again we remember the secret letter she wrote to a secret someone, guess you probably know who by now.

The night before the battle, the usual doubt creeps in as Jon went to Melisandre to clear out a few things which included if the Lord Of Light brought him back to life to die again, or take another bastard along with him.

The Battle came and this time, it was glorious.

Ramsay being a tease released Rickon to his half brother allowing him run well over 200 meters before bringing him down with an arrow to the back of the chest.

Jon Snow following eagerly waiting to receive his brother had already charged close enough to the enemy for him to turn back after Rickon’s death, he had to charge forward into a sea of a thousand leading men all mounted on horses and ready to kill. Thankfully, his men arrived and the battle began. On foot, Jon did as much as he could, taking down every little piece of crap that had the guts to strike at him.

After a couple of minutes, the ground was littered with bodies, stark fighters, Bolton fighters and wild folk alike. That was when the royal thorn decided it was time, enclosing all that was left of the resistance in a man-trap consisting of men and spears and shields and men and spears and shields.

That’s the thing about a battle, you fight to the finish, especially not after 5,700 men have died. Knowing they had all but lost, the still fought their way through the traps killing barely 20 men.

It looked like all hope was lost but Alas, she came... Sansa, riding on a horse with Peter Little finger by her side eager to win back her trust. Behind them were men he had acquired from Sansa’s spoiled little relative to end the battle which he did and left Ramsay scampering away on his horse to fight from behind the walls of his castle.

BOOM BOOM BOOM, three knocks on the door was all the door could take from the giant wildling before Ramsay was trapped and Jon knocked the air out of his body.

It all ended up with Sansa feeding him to his beloved hounds who he hadn’t fed in seven days.

Pulp Fiction And 20 Other Intriguing Movies To See Before You Die

I was going through my timeline a couple of days ago and stumbled upon a thread. It was supposed to be a thread showing mind bugling, intellectual and intriguing Sci-fi movies ever to be released. Seeing movies like Now You See Me and Lucy, I felt the list lacked some punch but in fairness to my follower, he did mention it was his pick so I decided to make my own list of intriguing movies you must see before you begin your journey into the afterlife. Most of these movies you know; others, I really doubt it but if you’re not one to let a good movie suggestion pass you by, I suggest you read this because most of the movies on this list are guaranteed to change your thinking.

I present to you, in no particular order, my personal favourite 21 mind bugling movies of all time.

Nigerian Politics: Good For The Internet, Bad For Us image

Nigerian Politics: Good For The Internet, Bad For Us

Politics wasn’t designed to be this entertaining but if it was, I’m entirely sure it wasn’t designed to have this much stupidity floating around.

Ever since the previous elections were conducted, the whole world turned to Nigeria who got rid of an incumbent president for the first time in recent years – A change Nigerians accepted in good fate, APC and PDP fans inclusive. But before I proceed, what does that even mean to be a fan of a political party? Well, in Nigeria, a PDP fan would abandon all logic and reasonable thinking and vote in a PDP president no matter how badly unqualified he is – That is how bad politics is here. Political parties have been reduced to no more than football clubs with fans that will go against reasonable thinking and place bets to favour their club regardless of the odds and how bad recent history is.

Ever since President Muhammadu Buhari became President, it has been one “pardon me to use the word” stupid complain or the other from his rival party. Instead of these complaints being directed and represented in the most dignifying of manners, PDP will take to social networks and prove to Nigerians why we didn’t vote them in again by being such jokers.

There has been a lot of recent activities but I’m really only going to throw light on the most recent squabble between one unsupportive group of individuals and one First Lady sick and tired of their crap.

In the recent Halliburton scandal that led to the imprisonment of Congressman Williams Jefferson in the United States, a certain Aisha Buhari was named to have played a criminal part in the affair and although the media claims that Aisha Buhari isn’t our First Lady, the Governor of Ekiti State Ayodele Fayose (who, mind you owes his workers and pensioners at least 5 months’ salary) goes and accuses her of being involved.

Angry, our First Lady says this:

Now how does PDP react to the First Lady’s tweet?

Nigeria is in a mess, let’s rally round and be supportive, as oppositions in power, we understand your eagerness to reclaim what you lost but this is certainly not the way to go about it. The next elections aren’t until 2019 anyway so let’s put aside petty rivalry and wait a while before we display campaign antics.

*737*Where Did All My Money Go: GTbank’s Mobile Portal Is Taking Everyone’s Money, Illegally

GTbank launched a quick and easy way for customers to top up airtime, send funds from their bank account to any person’s without a token and we all loved the idea.

At least until last week, GTbank customers who use this feature started noticing some fraudulent transactions been made with their account in guise of Airtime purchase. Tolu who doesn’t use this feature decided to see what would happen if he did. I sent a couple of people money and bought airtime with this platform and lo and behold, at work today I got an alert saying I bought airtime and my account was debited.

Pretty intense stuff, they fell for my bait.

Then i headed to twitter only to see a sea of complaints from people, in fairness to the bank, they are aware of this and are trying to rectify the situation.

So if you use this portal, take all your money away and lock it up somewhere, really, you’re safer tucking your money inside your pillow or in your bra.

There’s A Movie Showing At Silverbird Today And It’s Not Inside image

There’s A Movie Showing At Silverbird Today And It’s Not Inside

It’s just common sense to pay your debt.

AMCON, The Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria this morning took over all the assets of several companies belonging to Senator Ben Murray- Bruce. The companies to be affected by this are Silverbird Galleria Limited, Silverbird Promotions Limited and Silverbird Showtime Limited.

To save you the stress of reading a lot of legal jargon, here is the gist.

Murray-Bruce borrowed several sums of money from the Union Bank of Nigeria Plc using these companies in 2005 and 2007. Since then, he has defaulted in paying back the money he owes which is estimated to be around 11 billion Naira.

“The said loan was purchased by AMCON in 2011 after the capital base of Union Bank was terribly shaky and the common sense senator has persistently failed to pay the loans and yet has been pretending to be concerned with the welfare of Nigerians whom he has been skinning alive in order to remain relevant and live like a king,” Adegoke said to SaharaReporters.

Mr. Adegoke who is counsel to Dr. Muiz Banire (SAN), the receiver/manager over the assets as appointed by AMCON, was part of the agents who ensured the affected companies were shut down earlier this morning as a result of the court order.

“The exercise of this morning has all the paraphernalia of legality. Aside from the fact that the receivership was done pursuant to deeds of legal mortgages duly executed by the three companies and guaranteed by Ben Murray-Bruce and four of his brothers, there is a court order backing same up.

"It must be borne in mind that innocent depositors’ money is what the common sense propagator and his brothers have been living large and feeding fat upon without recourse to the interest of the real labourers who own the money,” Adegoke said.

With that rusty old place locked down for good, I guess it’s hello FilmHouse.

Now That Brexit Has Happened, What Could Be The Implications? image

Now That Brexit Has Happened, What Could Be The Implications?

Photocredit: politicsmadepublic.com

Britain has voted to exit the European Union following a referendum held on Thursday. The decision to leave the European Union is believed to be what’s best for the nation in terms of moving forward, re-establishing the nation and redefining its place in the world. Although the re-establishment has begun following this decision, it hasn’t been for the best so far.

What is the European Union?

The European Union began in 1951 as the European Coal and Steel Community after the World War II, it was an effort by six nations to foster unity through duty-free trade. Six years on, the Treaty of Rome created the European Economic Community, or Common Market.

Britain tried to join later, but President Charles de Gaulle of France vetoed its application in 1963 and in 1967. Britain finally joined in 1973.

Why Brexit?

The referendum asked voters whether Britain should remain a part of the European Union or not.

The reason is this; those who voted to stay think that in order for Britain to have any real influence on the world, the nation has to be a part of a larger piece consisting of other likeminded countries that have the same goal but cannot function as efficient if standing alone.

Those who voted to leave share the thought that European Union has been reformed over the last four decades with regard to the size and the reach of its bureaucracy, diminishing British influence and sovereignty... Here is where the problem lies; both parties have pretty genuine reasons to believe they are right.

Leading the campaign to remain is Prime Minister David Cameron who later resigned after Britain decided to leave. Although with the backing of the Labour Party, the Liberal Democrats and the Scottish National Party, the campaign to leave edged them out having 51.9% of the total votes.

The leave camp was led by Michael Gove, the justice minister, and Boris Johnson, the former mayor of London, over half the Conservative members of Parliament , and the members of the U.K. Independence Party, or UKIP, and its leader, Nigel Farage. Their main concern being sovereignty and immigration.

Who Voted

  • British citizens 18 and older.
  • Citizens abroad who have been registered to vote at home in the last 15 years.
  • Residents of Britain who are citizens of Ireland or of the Commonwealth which consists of 53 countries, including Nigeria.

What has happened since Brexit?

The pound plunged to its lowest level since 1985.

• Investors fled risky assets and turned to the dollar and the yen.

• The Bank of England earmarked £250 billion, about $344 billion, for potential stability measures.

Oh, yeah, Asos crashed due to Nigerians and other opportunistic set of individuals taking advantage of the precarious currency sway.

What happens to British tourists visiting Europe?

“Open skies” represents one of the most tangible benefits of European Union membership. Since 1994, any EU airline has been free to fly between any two points in Europe. If Britain is to continue enjoying this benefit, Britain must rejoin the European Economic Area and negotiate terms based on bilateral benefits.

That’s just one, accommodation will be a lot more expensive, passenger rights could be affected and British citizens might need to queue up at embassies to obtain a visa.

Looking Forward, What is Article 50?

Before any state can leave the European Union, the rules for exit which are contained in Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon must be satisfied. Triggering Article 50 by formally notifying the intension to withdraw, it starts a two-year clock running. After that, the Treaties that govern membership no longer apply to Britain and according to Telegraph, the terms of exit will be negotiated between Britain’s 27 counterparts, and each will have a veto over the conditions.

It's Data Wars In Nigeria And Airtel Is Winning, For Now image

It's Data Wars In Nigeria And Airtel Is Winning, For Now

There was a time when 1,000 could only get you 200mb at best on any decent network. Honestly, these times were simple, all you needed was money. After years of throwing away money to the likes of MTN who had pretty sweet internet connection but over the top prices and Airtel who was considerably cheap but very unstable network connection, Nigerians got fed up, at least I know I did.

To our rescue came Mobile wifi routers; first swift then spectranet then smile. Anyone who uses internet for anything serious wouldn’t mind paying through their teeth for internet connection that good; it was 4G LTE after all.

It seemed all was good again, internet users happy. But then something happened. It all started this year and it all started with a network you wouldn’t even think could make it happen.

MTN decided and said ‘you know what, screw this, let’s have a party’, and just like that, MTN subscribers like me could get 1.5GB for 1000 naira, 3.5GB for 2,000 and 10GB for 5,000.

Scary right, the one network who hadn’t changed their plans in years decided to slash prices. I’m sure you can guess what came after, the only network people actually use because of internet decided to join the madness, Airtel raised the bar with this one allowing customers get 4GB for 2,000 and 9GB for 3,500. I actually thought, maybe...just maybe i should have stuck around with Airtel a little longer.

It actually does get better than that. Etisalat came with a crazy offer, and believe me, unlike most other networks, Etisalat’s promotions come with no strings attached and their network can only be matched by MTN’s. 1.5GB for 1,000, 3.5GB for 2,000, and 6.5GB for 3,500. At this point, intensity had intensified and nobody knew what to do... Well that was until Glo decided to end the campaign once and for all, 10GB for 2,500... Doesn’t make any sense to you yeah? Well, me too.

6GB for 2,000

2GB for 1,000

And the mother of all data giveaways, 10GB for 2,500.

You might think that’s all but there’s talks of Airtel selling 11GB for just 2,000.

Picking a mobile data plan just became pretty stressful but it’s the kind of stressful I like.

Game Of Thrones Recap: Fire, Ice And Everything Nice image

Game Of Thrones Recap: Fire, Ice And Everything Nice

Ever been so moved by the sheer brilliance of what you had seen a week ago, or by the prospect of what you’re about to witness that you let the 145 second theme song blare out in the background while you passionately sing out loud knowing well that this is going to be the last time for a long time? That was me watching the season finale of Game Of Thrones.

Everything about the finale was perfect; the cinematography, the plots, the scripting, the score and the attention to the little details which in general has been the hallmark of this amazing Tv show. I might say “Oooh, not another long wait” but the happenings in the season finale are more than enough to chew on for 10 months.

I had a hard time picking a title for this post but this really does it and don’t worry, my other title options are coming as sub headings in this pulsating recap.

The Weight Of The Crown

Right from the start of this episode, you could sense something special was cooking up especially with the awkward silence hanging in the air, it was Sir Loras and Cersie’s trial day and just one of them was present and you can guess who that was.

Sir Loras had confessed to his crimes and was willing to join the seven fully aware he would be giving up his Tyrell name, his lordship in Highgarden and his bloodline. Missing from the trial was the queen mother herself and her son who she stopped from attending – You could already put two and two together, this wasn’t a trial, it was the greatest plot in the history of television overseen by Cersie herself. Curious and furious, Margaery  who got nervous a little too late demanded that the building be cleared out but the high sparrow wasn’t having any of that, a decision that cost all present their lives and made Cersie a few new enemies. The type that call out for blood right away.

The idea was simple, kill them all... the means, cruel even by her standards. She unleashed a weapon four seasons old as she blew the citadel up with wildfire. At that point, my thought was “Really, Cersie, you don’t need more enemies now, DAENERYS IS COMING”. Having seen what happened from the throne room miles away, King Tommen does what he thought logical; drop the crown and take your own life... This is not a game for little kids.

After the death of the king, Cersie having run out of male children to make king was crowned queen all over the seven kingdoms. That would be a good thing but trust me, her reign will be short...death is coming for her across the seas on both sides.

Ice: His Name Is Jon

Having secured the North, Jon and his half... or is it step now? Ooh, wth? Jon and his stelf sister Sansa made their way to Winterfell. Surveying the great dinning, Jon took a trip down memory lane telling Melisandre how he used to be with the true born Starks. Sir Davos made his way into the scene forcing Melisandre to confess to her earlier crimes working with Stanis. Jon hearing all of that banishes her from the North and that could well be the end of her role on this show.

The North is up for taking and Baelish wants to have it with Sansa by his side but that’s just hopeful talk as the North agree to Jon being the White wolf who avenged the red wedding.

By the way, who is Jon?

In another one of Brandon’s time travel epistles, he goes back this time to see who Jon Snow really is. Apparently, Ned Stark the man of honour isn’t Jon’s father, but rather Ned is an uncle to Jon who is son to Lady Lyanna, Ned’s sister... ugh, I’m sure there must have been a better, less complicated way to put this.

In other less interesting news, Arya strikes Walder Frey off her list as she puts an end to his pervy little run on the show. Also, Sam Tully has found the well of infinite knowledge, where he shall drink and learn to become a maester.

Fire: The Red Capes Are Coming

After the whole thing in Kings Landing, Olenna Tyrell is out for revenge as she sets up a meeting with the Dawnish who have as good a reason as any to want Cersie’s head in a spike... Who set up this meeting you might ask, well, Lord Varys. The only other dickless person on the show that isn’t a soldier.

Why did he set it up? Lol, easy... Daenerys who has acquired ships, dragons, dickless fighters, Dothraki fighters, and the wisdom of Tyrion her queen hand is going to do either of the following:

  • Join forces with the two houses and storm Kings landing all dragons blazing
  • Wait for Cersie to battle the other two united houses and attack when she’s out of resources

Either way, Cersie is in deep deep shit.

Ambode, Hawking And Every Single Facet Of The Dilemma Lagos Is Faced With image

Ambode, Hawking And Every Single Facet Of The Dilemma Lagos Is Faced With

Ambode is chasing hawkers away from the street and into the waiting arms of social vices.

Lagos feels different these days; new laws are put in place every now and then but the latest addition to this collection isn’t looking as good as the governor intended. A ban has been placed on street hawking with the consequences being a fine of 90,000 or 9 months in prison for both buyer and seller.

People are already having their say because not only is buying items on the road a fundamental part of being a Nigerian, it is a source of income for those who still look for honourable ways to make money, and serves as one of the backbones of music distribution in Nigeria. For the love of God, there would have been no Olajumoke the bread seller without street hawking - Which makes me ask, HOW ARE WE TO GET BREAD?????

Why Do People Hawk?

The sad reality is that for most street hawkers, they hawk not because they want but because they have to. It doesn’t take much to become a petty thief in this economy but some will still take their chances making a profit of 500 Naira per day hawking fruits or gala in traffic. Stores are expensive to rent and even more expensive to maintain. An example of a failed project to curtail street hawking is the new Tejuosho ultra-mordern market at Yaba which as we speak has 95% of its store spaces still intact because of the cost implication on sellers.

What Are People Saying?

Everyone has what he believes and I think for the most part we all correct in our own sense.

  • There is the issue of the young sellers being prone to certain things like rape for the young females, young girls who hawk goods end up almost too often been raped. This is not a good thing and it makes it a risky business for most girls pushed into the business by their caretaker but what happens when they quit this job because of the new law? Having no other way to earn a living, some if not most would gladly exchange sex for money... but you can say at least now it’s their choice.
  • There is the issue of highway robbery. Have you ever been robbed on the highway? Personally, no, but I do know a handful of victims. You cannot punish every street hawker for the actions of a few pretend street hawkers and the ineptness of the law enforcement agencies. If anything has to be done about this, it should be strengthening the police and highway patrol, not taking away a job that gives more than it takes.
  • There is the issue of it being illegal in the first place and should not even exist.
  • There is the issue of the street hawkers constituting a nuisance on the road causing congestions almost on every road but really though? You cannot blame traffic congestion on a little human traffic.

Here are my two cents on the issue; this is an attempt in futility much like the past administration’s attempt to get motorcycle riders in helmets. Street hawking may or may not have such negative effect in the society but if this is to end like this, a countermeasure should be put in place so the people who benefitted from hawking don’t resort to worse things to make money.

This NGO Is The Face Of Mental Awareness In Nigeria image

This NGO Is The Face Of Mental Awareness In Nigeria

It always starts with not knowing, doesn’t it? Especially when excuses become likely but as we’ve all come to accept, ignorance isn’t an excuse anymore.

Let’s task our minds a bit.

Imagine waking up to find that by no fault of yours, you can no longer smile; you feel unnecessary guilt; don’t feel like doing anything at all; and you are getting irritated far too easier than normal. You don’t have a fever; you are not coughing, but somehow food no longer appeals to you.

Imagine having to feel that way for a week, then a month, then some more.

Imagine not knowing why exactly you feel that way or have anyone to talk to about your issues.

Imagine finding out that you are indeed, sick, and still not be able to tell someone about it.

Then the voices in your head start to have a voice. They torment you with persecutory thought insertions. Insomnia follows; no interest in anything pleasurable.

Imagine finding out about a terminal illness, but not having someone to take care of you because of societal stereotypes.

That’s just a glimpse into what people suffering from mental illnesses have to deal with and more so, in this part of the world.

Contrary to popular opinion, mental illness isn’t madness. Yes, shocking. What’s actually shocking is that there are more mentally ill people at home than on the streets and in the markets. It’s clear that people need to start taking their mental health serious.

Mental illness is likened to the cancer of the mind; one that has been cruelly and unfairly neglected in our society even with the advent of civilization and education. We need to do more. We need to understand that with the way the world is set up right now, it’s important to be in optimal health; physically, and mentally. There’s the need for everyone to agree that health isn’t complete if we can’t maintain healthy minds.

In making conscious efforts to create awareness and take a stand to end stigma, a few of us decided to institute a platform to reach out as advocates for mental health. We formed a non-governmental organization whose primary goal is to take advantage of the reach that social media offers to enlighten people about the importance of maintaining optimal mental health.

Using campaigns that run every other month and sometimes throughout the year, we will look to engage with people, using both online and offline events.

We hope to impact people’s line of thoughts positively even as we advocate for greater focus on our mental health by the government.

To become a part of this great and long overdue cause, do visit:

6 Amazing New Albums You Should Listen To All Weekend image

6 Amazing New Albums You Should Listen To All Weekend

Maren Morris Hero

Maren Morris’ hero is a classic example of what 90’s country would sound like if it met the 20’s poppy vibe. It’s a great album if you listen to new age country music as she talks about the things she loves and the way they make her feel.

American Authors What We Live For

If there’s one thing American Authors will never do, it is producing a below par album and they surely lived up to expectation with this amazing work of art. Their energy and synergy have not been well put together like this EVERRRRR. Claps, sneers, shakes and feet stamping, this is the album.

PUP The Dream Is Over

PUP is a Canadian punk band from Ontario and if there’s anything to take away from here, think of them as a more edgy punk Bon Jovi with full on yelling yellingness all through their songs.

Jon Bellion The Human Condition

Practically one of my best albums from this year, this album is everything you wish Chris Brown will do. He raps, he sings, and he writes his own music from inspiration drawn from god knows where.

The Temper Trap Thick As Thieves

Coming from Conditions and their self titled project, the temper trap reminds us why their music is evergreen with some of the pop/synth sounds found on their second album, The Temper Trap. Thick as thieves is a subtle touch from the rest and stands out for me.

Kygo Cloud Nine

You could search for months for a better compilation this year but you just simply would not find one. Kygo has his production on fleek with every song put out in this project.

This Is The Coolest Music Video Of The Year And Yes, Kanye West Is In It

Yeah, so we all heard the Summer Friends song from Chances Mixtape earlier this year, well that part at the end that got us all giddy and stuff happened to remind me of this song which after finding out happened to be the same song except with no rap - I knew i wasn't mad when i heard Bon Iver in Summer Friends. Anyhow, this is the video and it features Kanye West who really didn't do anything in it anyway. This is my favorite song now.

We Aren't All Leo Messi: This Popular Football Star’s Final Attempt To Dribble Justice image

We Aren't All Leo Messi: This Popular Football Star’s Final Attempt To Dribble Justice

Everyone who has been alive for at least 10 years has surely heard the name Lionel Messi. He usually makes the news for doing something no other player has done but these days, although he still does that, it’s not been for the greater good. Lionel Andrés Messi just recently lost yet another national final after losing to Chile on penalty shootouts, having lost three international finals in three years, Messi decided to hang his boots and call it a day, at least for international football.

Just 4 days ago, the 29 year old footballer was dealt another major blow; he has been sentenced to 21 months in jail for tax fraud. The Spanish court came to this decision after months of investigation which led to Messi and his father, Jorge earning a fine of (£1.7m; $2.2m) and €1.5m respectively for defrauding Spain of €4.1m in 2007-09.

The pair also face millions of euros in fines for using tax havens in Belize and Uruguay to conceal earnings from image rights gotten from deals with Pepsi -Cola, Procter & Gamble, and Adidas which date as far back as 2005.

Although neither of them is expected to serve jail time because under the Spanish legal system, prison terms less than 2 years can be served under probation, Messi’s lawyer says his client and his father will in fact be appealing the court’s decision in an attempt to clear the air.

"The sentence is not correct and we are confident the appeal will show the defence was right," Messi's lawyers said in a statement after his client was found guilty.

Fc Barcelona’s Position

Barcelona believe for some reason that their talisman is innocent and have devised an elaborate scheme to get people to show unwarranted sympathy to their star player.

All we know for now is that this plan requires people take photos of themselves in Barcelona prints and tag #WeAreAllLeoMessi

Twitter has gone off on this as majority see it as a senseless campaign to let a guilty man go free just because he's popular.

Is Western Racism A Problem For Africans Too? image

Is Western Racism A Problem For Africans Too?

Derek Luke, plays Silla Ba Dibba, in History's New Orleans-shot remake of the slavery epic 'Roots.' (A E Networks)

Too many African Americans, adults and children alike have been shot by police in the back, unarmed, after stops for minor violations totaling in more than 500 deaths in just 2016 alone. Thanks to social media, the world is bearing witness to the face of systemic racism.

In 2010 a swell of violence against African-Italian farm workers in southern Italy left 70 people injured which lead to the evacuation of 300 farmers from the region.

In 2009 and 2010, there were increasing racist attacks against Indians in Melbourne. Fearing racist attacks and lynching, the Indian government issued an advisory warning on the dangers of travelling to Melbourne.

Racism goes beyond what makes up the thoughts of an individual person at the moment of a particular act. Racism is the swelling history of all those thoughts and acts. They add up to a system in which people of color are consistently treated differently from white people. Unfair racial stereotypes have taken root in the hearts of people. They cause us to react to people differently—in stores, on the streets, in encounters between police and citizens no matter what country. They even affect the way we see ourselves. Nigeria has its fair share of problems but as a Nigerian, when I see yet another black person gunned down on the news in a distant country, I see myself because they are in fact our brothers, the descendants of our ancestors stolen from our home. The treatment they endure is a reflection of the perception white people have on the citizens of African countries.

Racism splits people into groups, based on physical characteristics. Groups create cultures that they live by and groups with thriving cultures are difficult to repress.  A Racist society suppresses the cultures of a particular race by appropriating, smudging, profiting and distorting facets of that culture in order to spread myths about the races, their abilities, and their roles, which provide the bases for racist belief and action in the other social institutions.

There is a western invention called “whiteness” pushing black people to marginalise themselves. Culturally and aesthetically, all good and pure things are white and all bad and impure things are black. Jesus is white, the angels are white, history is white, religion is white, philosophy is white, white is right and the colour black denotes everything ordinary. But that is a lie, a lie that will always be perpetuated because of racism, because it still festers in the world. Who created those constructs that we all seem to adhere too? It wasn’t people of African descent I will say for sure.

Ironically Africa is the cradle of civilization, the originator of mathematics, medicine, architecture, dance, music, art and science but again comes “white washing” the erasure of our original authorship, a cultural smudging of what is ours becoming to become theirs. Culture is important because your culture is way of life and if it is taking away from you what do you have to live for.

Racist attitudes are now woven into our systems and institutions like poisonous threads, hurting us all.

The world is a global community with resources flowing through all channels. History has proven racist logic led to slavery and the raping of our land and resources. History has proven that racist stereotypes linger and have an alarming effect on the way white business employ black people, immigrants and do business with African countries.  Presently Nigeria still deals with the effects of pollution caused by western oil exploration companies and Libya still burns from the interference of the United States in their political atmosphere.

The media encourages this racist stereotype just for more clicks and hits. Hollywood distorts our history with casting white actors to erase our origin, identify countries in film as just “Africa”, ignoring our identity, restructuring our stories to brand us as helpless by-standers while white people are the heroes who set us free of our ignorance. Our music and dance founded in rhythm, beats and blues are exported out of our land, given a new name and replanted into the ears of the west as “edgy and innovative”.

Nothing real can be threatened and African culture is the real thing. It was the first concept ever made and will always exist no matter how many bullets go through its back. The bigots, racists and extremists all have an agenda against people of darker skins, which transcends countries, borders and blood. If they come for our brothers, one day they will come for us. I pray that the bank of truth, equality and justice shall never be bankrupt.

Forget Everything You Ever Knew About Your Zodiac Sign image

Forget Everything You Ever Knew About Your Zodiac Sign

For people who believe in this type of stuff, I’m not sure how you to break this to you. Recent discovery has led to a new belief system about the constellations and the birth of a new zodiac sign, the effects of which have sent reverberations echoing all round the world... for people who believe in this type of stuff.

Let’s Back It Up A Little

The photo circulating all over the internet was from a TIME magazine publication in January 2011, a publication that wasn’t acknowledged well enough for people to change what they believe about the zodiacs. However, the way twitter works; we expect the resurfacing of this photo to cause a lot of controversy.

So What Is TIME Magazine Saying?

When Astrologers say “The sun is in Pisces”, the sun really isn’t in Pisces and since your astrological sign has been determined by the position of the sun on the day you were born, you probably are not what you think you are – And the reason is this:

Astrologers had a little problem right from the inception. Ancient Babylonians had 13 constellations, but wanted only 12, so threw out Ophuchicus, the snake holder. Libra didn’t even enter the picture until the era of Julius Caesar.

So here’s the deal, if all the constellations are to be taken into consideration, this is how the real signs of the zodiac should look like.

Capricorn: Jan. 20-Feb. 16.
Aquarius: Feb. 16-March 11.
Pisces: March 11-April 18.
Aries: April 18-May 13.
Taurus: May 13-June 21.
Gemini: June 21-July 20.
Cancer: July 20-Aug. 10.
Leo: Aug. 10-Sept. 16.
Virgo: Sept. 16-Oct. 30.
Libra: Oct. 30-Nov. 23.
Scorpio: Nov. 23-29.
Ophiuchus: Nov. 29-Dec. 17.
Sagittarius: Dec. 17-Jan. 20.

So there you have it, if you believe in this type of stuff, everything you ever believed about yourself is wrong and if you ask me, you’re better off in the hands of fortune cookies.

This Popular OAP Wants You To Take The Minimum Wage Challenge image

This Popular OAP Wants You To Take The Minimum Wage Challenge

What Is The Minimum Wage Challenge?

The minimum wage challenge is an initiative first used in the U.S. in 2014. It was a call for all elected officials and community members to live on Florida’s minimum wage of $8.05 an hour for 5 days and document the experience on social media. The reason behind this was that some felt the need for the minimum wage to be increased and what better way to convey this message to the “men in power” than to make them experience what it felt like to live with that as an income for a month. Since then, it has been kept in the wraps until May, 2016 when former Florida Democratic Party Chair and Candidate for Congress District Bob Poe, announced that he will take on the Minimum Wage Challenge.

The minimum wage in Nigeria is 18,000 naira and despite the rumours of an impending review and possible upgrade to 45,000, Nigerians are not keeping their hopes up just yet. Former NLC leader, Oshiomhole said that N200 to one US Dollar means Nigerian workers are earning just meagre income of $90 per month at the current N18,000 minimum wage, The Union reports, but that was before the Naira to Dollar relationship became what it is now.

As a result of this, Popular Nigerian OAP and to a fair point, social media influencer @Osi_suave took to twitter and decided to live on 18,000 a month. I mean, if Ben Murray-Bruce could get us purchasing indigenous stuff all from the comfort of his internet enabled smartphone, surely we can get the likes of him to take the Minimum Wage Challenge.

And he is ready to give you a hand if you are willing to join him.

Poor Osi even got a little motivation from IK.

Okay, sorry, this is funny.

Barely two days in and Osi is already losing his mind. I know a lot of you would read this and dismiss it without giving it a second thought and I was going to ask for us to all get involved but then again, most of us already live this life unknowingly and I know that no amount of involvement can make elected officials here take this challenge and see it truthfully but it’s worth a shot.

If you feel inspired to take on this challenge, feel free to do so and document your experience online to help spread the word... 18,000 a month is just not going to cut it.

Everything You Need To Know About Konamii 2016 Lagos Edition image

Everything You Need To Know About Konamii 2016 Lagos Edition

All roads lead to Campus Square Mini-Stadium in Lagos, July 30th when the Konami 2016 Charity Games will take the centre-stage. The event which will also feature top class entertainment will have six orphanage homes from across Lagos State participating.

Organisers said, there will be no winners and no losers as the event is aimed at giving the inmates a sense of value, entertain them and as well see to their needs.

According to the founder of Konami Nigeria, Olamide Olabisi, Konami was born out of a passion and need to help the less privileged, particularly the orphans in the society by blending sports, entertainment and charity to raise funds, provide gifts and give orphans a sense of belonging in the society.

The programme which is in its fourth edition, according to Olabisi, “will witness an expansion, in terms of participating orphanage homes from the usual four to six.

“Two more orphanage homes have been involved, bringing the number to six,” he said, adding that top Nigerian artistes like YCEE, Adekunle Gold and Nollywood stars will be on hand to provide the desired entertainment.

He also disclosed that the Lagos State Sports Commission and the state ministry of Tourism and Culture have indicated interest in the event. “They have pledged their commitment to the event and we are pleased that they have agreed to identify with the charity project,” he said.

The proceeds from the event would be given out to the participating orphanage homes in form of cash and material.

Sorry Guys, No Homeland This Year image

Sorry Guys, No Homeland This Year

Is Peter Quinn going to die? Is Carrie going to settle for Billionaire paradise? Is Saul still technically a good guy? Are we even done with Germany?

The fifth season of Homeland aired on October 4, 2015 and the debut alone drew over 1.6 million viewers. The final episode aired on the 20th of December 2015 and we got news that Showtime had renewed the TV show for a sixth season which was initially slated for fall 2016. However, weeks ago, Showtime confirmed that the show which always comes alive during the fall season is going to undergo a rescheduling and starting from the sixth season, will begin to air winter.

That sucks but if it makes you feel better, Showtime is nearing a renewal for the seventh and eighth season.

Considering how brilliant the previous season was, this came as a shock to me and if you take a look at the ratings which reflected accurately the brilliance in the fifth season, this tectonic shift isn’t the way to go now. According to IMDB, Homeland has a score of 8.4/10 based on over 224,600 user votes, 265 reviews from viewers, and 115 reviews from critics. According to Metacritic, the fifth season of the drama series has a score of 76 out of 100 based on 17 reviews from critics, whereas the audience rated the fifth series at 7.5 out of 10 basing on 98 user ratings. According to Rotten Tomatoes, “Homeland” illustrates the same indicators. “Homeland” Season 5 has an average score of 8 out of 10 and 87% approval rating based on 33 reviews from critics, while the viewers rated the fifth season at 4.2 out of 5 with a 87% approval rating based on 426 votes.

When and what do we expect from season 6?

According to announcements from Claire Danes, Season 6 will begin January 2017 and will cover the transitional period between Election Day and the inauguration, and will lead to a female president been declared winner. Claire said that she does not hint at Hillary Clinton but C’mon.... Everyone wants to see that.

LSMK’s LUSH Is Everything Nigerian Alternative Should Sound Like image

LSMK’s LUSH Is Everything Nigerian Alternative Should Sound Like

“Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” Plato

Can alternative music work in Nigeria? Over the years, we’ve had several answers to this question. Blackmagic made a statement, Asa certainly did and so did Bez, Johnny Drille, BrymO and a host of other artistes but I’m not here to talk about them. I’m here to talk about someone you probably do not know; LSMK.

“LSMK has that, an idea for saccharine experimental music with sounds invoking psychedelia, and drug-like happiness.” Pulse

LSMK’s EP LUSH is a vivid representation of a wild dreamer. Listening to the 12 track contemporary work, I almost felt I was listening to a blend of Frank Ocean and Jon Bellion. I wouldn’t get ahead of myself yet but I believe this young man has places to go.

Whatever Olisa Odogbolu had in mind when he set out on this project might have not been fully accomplished but the EP was littered with pieces of genius here and there as it kept genre morphing in such a beautiful way.

From the streets to the sheets The story of the bread seller image

From the streets to the sheets The story of the bread seller

On the first of February 2016, TY Bello, a Nigerian artist most popularly known for her 2007 song “Green Land” posted a series of photos on her instagram page. The singer/photographer dragged Tinietempah into the streets of Lagos in an attempt to catch some of the Lagos spirit, which she did. Unknown to TY Bello was a whole different story waiting to be told of a young Nigerian who patrolled the streets of Lagos selling the popular Agege bread to passersby who yearned for the goodness of this food.

Like all great stories, this has a similar beginning.

The Observation

The beautiful bread seller in the red dress in one of my edits for instance..You know her Abi?.. That one that everyone on the street wants to marry.. She's fine and she knows it. its all over how she walks and I know you've seen her before” TY Bello

During the shoot, TY Bello like every A-List photographer took advantage of her surrounding by taking note of everything happening at that present moment, which was when young Olajumoke Orisaguna made her appearance, one which unknown to her was going to be a career changing and life defining one.

BlogImage

The Realization

As images of the shoot surfaced last week, it hit every social media platform with people asking questions like “Who is that?” “Was this planned or totally coincidental?” After which it became clear what to do.

The buzz about her multiplied when I clarified that she indeed wasn't a model at all but simply stumbled on our set. I immediately begone my search for her .If so many felt she was beautiful enough to be a model.. Then maybe she was meant to be one .I was going to find a way to make it happen .I had assistants leave word with people in the area we shot her and to my delight the very next day, she showed up at my studio” TY Bello

BlogImage

The Critical Study

'Aso kan na ni mo wo kiri Lana'

Jumoke the 'model' the Internet had been searching for speaks almost no English. She explained how she had worn the exact outfit in our photograph the day before and someone showed her her own photograph on his phone from facebook. A mallam led her to my studio that morning. She narrated her journey to Lagos...A hair stylist from Ire in Osun state but not making enough profit between she and her husband, a sliding door installer in from same village ,to care for their two young children .

At the invitation of a distant relative who knew someone operating a bakery, she relocated Lagos with her 14 month old daughter to give bread hawking a try, leaving her husband and older 5 year old behind.

As I listened to her I wandered if the beauty I had seen on my screen as I edited my image was a fluke...Well until she smiled... I realized that I was wrong. I had in fact, underestimated the beauty of this 27 year old woman. As always, it was her eyes and of course her perfectly chiselled features that jumped out at you when she chuckled .This lady belonged in front of my camera. After a conversation with her husband telling him the story of our meeting I decided I was going to photograph her that very afternoon...Within an hour... Bimpe Onakoya; one of Nigeria's leading makeup artist and Zubby one of my favourite hairstylist were at my studio to work magic. They had both followed the story online and were more than happy to put in their very best for her. Olajumoke... With curly extensions out, revealed a short natural Afro that beautifully hugged her face. Bimpe onakoya also had decided to keep the makeup minimal... She stepped in front of my camera and I almost couldn't recognize he. She moved different too. Jumoke looked straight into my lens emoting like she had done this all her life.... I knew we had found a star” TY Bello

BlogImage

The Senseless Criticisms

Like all great stories, this one does come with a handful of hateful comments from... you guessed right..Twitter. Reading this heart-warming story of fate and destiny and all you can think about is how a young woman who has lived over three quarters of her life in Osun State speaks poor English. Who English don epp?

7 Common Misconceptions Movies Taught Us About Love image

7 Common Misconceptions Movies Taught Us About Love

Love doesn't happen at once

Love at first sight? it doesn't happen all at once, it takes more than one shoot. Sometimes you don't even know when it’s happening. They could be your best friend and one day just a little wink of theirs would change it for you and you start seeing them differently. True love builds, as you learn and lose and you learn again. Most times, true love is a crescendo, always rising but never ending and no definite beginning.

Love is not always deserving

Good people don't always love good people and the same goes for bad people too. You can't help who loves you and whom you love. You might fall in love with someone one who doesn't treat you right; you might fall in love with a person who is way out of your league. Love doesn't respect lanes or comfort zones. Princesses don't always end up with a prince, sometimes the prince ends up with the witch and sometimes the frog that’s been kissed still stays a frog and you still love it either way. Angels fall in love with monsters everyday and fight for each other and with each other. We accept the love we think we deserve.

Love is not enough

Love is the beginning and the end but sadly not the entire story. Honesty, communication, endless forgiveness and sacrifices are the other paragraphs in a love story with a happy Ending. To want to be with someone takes more than love because on the days you can't love them what else can you give offer them? Trust me, those days always come. You have to be able to give someone more than love. Love is beautiful but not enough to survive on.

Love has an organic span

Allow people to come into your life and change it; allow them leave when it is time. Everything has an organic span, fight for things but don’t force them. Someone might appear into your life for 5 minutes, 5 days, 6 hours, 6 weeks, 7 years or a lifetime, let it bloom. Love is a flower with a cycle, we are the petals and some of us fall off while some of us stay together until the end of that season. And no matter how they leave you grudgingly or with abandon absorb it and let it change and prepare you for the next season.

Love hurts but always it can heal

Love will either break you or make you whole, either way it will always build you. 9 out of 10 times love hurts you but 10 out of 10 times it can teach you if you let it. In the movies if you lose it all, someone usually has to come heal you but that’s not true. You learn to love yourself better after every romantic experience and with that evolved love you learn to love people better. Like you trust that your skin will heal after a wound trust that your heart will too.

Love is a sacrifice but not the ultimate sacrifice

Yes, to a large extent love is a continuous sacrifice but unlike the movies you shouldn’t give up everything in the name of love. Love would never push you to the extent of losing your identity and individuality. When you can compromise – do, but when you can’t – don’t. You do not always have to compromise for someone who comes into your life. Love must be earned not sacrificed for.  Because when you are in love nothing feels like a sacrifice.  There are 7 billion people on earth go find your soul mate don’t compromise for one.

Real love can never be threatened

Sometimes it gets hard you know? Movies either depict love as a breeze of success or as a storm of destruction. Love is real and it is difficult to preserve but it is real. Every diamond has imperfections and so will the best relationships and marriages. There will be tears, torture and turbulence but it will always come with redemption, remedy and resurrection.

Papa Omisore's P.O.C Proudly Unveils Latest ‘Essentials’ S.S’17 Collection

Following the critical acclaim of his immediate past LFDW 2015 Zebra collection, Papa Omisore upped his creative ante by delivering entirely new designs, while maintaining his brand’s fluid and laidback appeal, and what resulted is the vibrant and colorful ‘Essentials’ collection.

Everything from the intricate mix of art and functionality to P.O.C deliberately opting for a campaign shoot, instead of a look book, featuring the original P.O.C man, Omisore, instead of professional models, is to show the everyday Nigerian man how he too can wear P.O.C on a daily basis.

Also it was important to Omisore to portray his connection and relationship with the pieces, from conception to final execution, in the campaign.

P.O.C’s ‘Essentials’ collection is not just stylish and eye catching; it is also diverse, casual and necessary for the Nigerian man’s wardrobe.

What Edtech In Nigeria Should Be All About image

What Edtech In Nigeria Should Be All About

In these past few months, I’ve followed several Edtech solutions/companies closely and while their effort is laudable for having achieved some success, I strongly believe their approach is flawed. This is not to specifically claim that they’re doing the wrong things but simply that they would have greater impact on the Nigerian education system if they refocused their efforts. There is a lot of attention being paid to the lower levels of education – primary and secondary schools – as well as the transitional exams into higher institutions yet the greatest problem lies within the tertiary education system. This is after all, the system supposed to equip individuals with the necessary knowledge and its industrial applications in order to be more productive in the outside world.

Of course, it’ll be quite easy to point to the Western world’s focus on computer based courses and conclude, “Presto, that’s what we need” but that would not only be ill-advised but also uninformed. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that some of the top qualifications in the Western world are computer-based skills, hence the spotlight on such. With a much different system at work in Nigeria, it’s not effective to adopt a similar strategy if you want to provide indigenous value on a large scale. We must look into our biggest industries and prevalent practices in order to devise a solution that provides the most impact. Industries such as Agriculture, Real Estate as well as Engineering – Petroleum/Chemical in particular – are excellent starting points in which technology can provide better equipped potential employees that can add value to their employers, improve existing systems and provide nationwide economic growth.

Let us focus on what the market needs from graduates, find experts who can provide this ‘education’ and link them up with those still in the tertiary education system. If this strategy is successfully executed, we’ll have more individuals who upon leaving higher institutions are better suited to fulfil the country’s needs thereby increasing their chances of getting jobs and that needful work experience, as Mr Tayo Oviosu stated. This is crucial in improving your chances of creating a sustainable and successful business in due time. It’s a pretty efficient cycle if you ask me: Educate undergrads with useful and applicable skills, thus making them increasingly employable which in turn leads to an individual with the right work experience and skillset to educate another generation of undergrads.

I may be wrong though or maybe there’s already someone out there who knows this and is working on it but I strongly believe the Edtech companies will not have truly fulfilled their potential until they are able to successfully employ this strategy to transform the Nigerian education system.

A Lot Of Nigerian Teenagers Are Watching Pornography And This Is A Huge Concern image

A Lot Of Nigerian Teenagers Are Watching Pornography And This Is A Huge Concern

Apart from being a business and brand strategist, Subomi Plumptre who heads the corporate and social media practices at Alder Consulting finds the time to tackle some of Nigeria and the world’s problems through her frequent research work.

Not so long ago, I stumbled upon one of her works where she wrote an extensive report on an issue most parents would rather shy away from.

The Rise of Internet Porn & its Generational Impact caught my attention and I began reading. Subomi brought in some hard to argue with facts which initially made me giggle but the afterthoughts sent chills down my spine.

In 2015, the popularity of Nigerian Google searches for porn (relative to other searches) on a scale of 0 to 100 was above 80. (Google ranks as 100 any item that constitutes 10% or more of all searches in a country.) The number of average monthly searches by volume was 135,000 and the States with the greatest popularity for porn searches (from high to low) were: Enugu, Oyo, Ogun, Rivers, Lagos, Abia and Cross River. The relative popularity of rape porn videos was also above 80, with Lagos State leading the charge and in 2014, Nigeria ranked third globally for the most Google searches for Gay Porn. (We were ranked second in 2013.)"

Very disturbing statistics, yes, but it doesn’t stop there, since 2009, porn search popularity has been on a 70% annual increase with Nigeria overtaking the U.S. (a country twice our size and with more than double our internet users) in 2014 and 2015.

Now how does this affect your kids?

Nigerians do not only use the internet, they love it; from bbm to twitter to facebook and instagram, there’s no way you can go a day without checking feeds especially with the current slash in ISP tariff plans. 40% of the Nigerian population have access to the internet and majority of this 40% comprises of the youth because quite simply, they got there first and that’s a truth we all have to live with. While working on the Jack & Jill Therapy platform (a free telephone based platform for those seeking sexual counselling), Subomi disclosed in her report that addiction to porn and masturbation had been the most reoccurring issue but the sad and undeniable fact of this is that habits take quite some time to form and with our kids all exposed to the dangers of direct or indirect pornography, how soon do we expect them to get hooked to this?

Just weeks ago, Subomi had a talk with cable about a friend of hers who happened to have a teenage son. She talked about how she was forced to have “the talk” with the teenager after she caught him watching pornographic material on his mobile phone.

She made mention of how her recent discovery of Game of Thrones; a popular tv show among the teenagers has made her more aware of the position parents should be taking concerning the issue at hand by taking little things like movie restrictions more importantly. She spoke about how Nigerian parents should be there to give the kids knowledge rather than have them find out through the wrong media.

Instagram Is Waging War On Snapchat

If you are already pissed off by Snapchatters constantly having their phones extended trying to capture life’s every moment, your life is about to get a whole lot worse. Instagram today announced they are releasing something called “Instagram stories”; that is Snapchat for you if Evan Spiegel isn’t willing to sell yet.

What techcrunch is calling Snapchat for adults, instagram stories are rolling out over the next few weeks.

“Today, we’re introducing Instagram Stories, a new feature that lets you share all the moments of your day, not just the ones you want to keep on your profile. As you share multiple photos and videos, they appear together in a slideshow format: your story.” Much like snapchat, this new story feature isn’t going to hang around for the longest... They apparently leave after 24 hours.”

“You’ll see stories from people you follow in a bar at the top of your feed — from your best friends to your favorite popular accounts. When there’s something new to see, their profile photo will have a colorful ring around it.

Another George R.R. Martin Show Is Around The Corner image

Another George R.R. Martin Show Is Around The Corner

The man who brought us the masterpiece that is Game of Thrones could have his works hanging around a lot longer than we expect. Having been announced that our beloved Game of Thrones would be coming to an end in 2018 with the coming seasons apparently shorter, a lot of fans have turned attention to other shows in preparation of the inevitable. However, news has gotten to us that George R.R. Martin is teaming up with Universal Cable Productions to bring us another fantasy world created by the genius.

The superhero show titled Wild Cards was created alongside Melinda M. Snodgrass in 1987 and according to verge is set in an alternate history which began following the outbreak of an alien virus that mutates its victims but survivors can be crippled or gain superhuman powers. The series spans over twenty anthologies, in which individual authors contribute short stories to a much larger narrative. Wild Cards was expected about 5 years ago when Syfy Films bought the screen rights for the movie adaptation but somehow, that didn’t materialize.

Martin mentioned he will not be involved in the show because of his exclusive deals with HBO however, his co-creator, Melinda will be one of the executive producers for the show.

Every Active Kickass Torrent Mirror Is Actually Just A Dressed Up Piratebay image

Every Active Kickass Torrent Mirror Is Actually Just A Dressed Up Piratebay

Since the arrest of Kickass torrents’ owner Artem Vaulin, there have been several mirror sites that have operated as make shift kickasses. At least that is what we think, yesterday I went in search of a particular file and I discovered the truth; the kickass torrent mirrors are in fact not mirrors at all but dressed up piratebays converting contents from the parent piratebay site to Kickass UI format. This deceptive little trick is really easy to notice and if you’re willing to find out, I’ll guide you.

So let’s pick a random searchword and run it through Kickass.mx; one of the last surviving supposed reincarnations of KAT.cr. Let us use “titanic” as an example.

This is what you would find under the results page on the supposed Kickass body double.

Now head over to piratebay and search the exact keywords, notice anything?

The results are the exact same thing arranged the same all the way to their seeders and leechers. I don’t know who thought this to be a good idea but that man deserves an award. I personally think Kickass got really popular because of its visual appeal hence the reason why piratebay is taking advantage of this.

Iron Man’s Female Successor, Riri Williams Is Going To Be Called Ironheart image

Iron Man’s Female Successor, Riri Williams Is Going To Be Called Ironheart

Last month, Marvel Revealed the Iron Man role was going to be passed on to a 15 year old female who happens to be a black genius. As expected, Riri Williams wasn't going to keeping the Iron Man title. Just recently, as reported by Wired, she will be going by Ironheart.

Williams’ first appearance in the Marvel Universe was back in May when she was introduced to us in Invincible Iron Man #9 where she created her own Iron Man suit in her dormitory at MIT and later got kicked out of school. According to Verge, Wired reports that Williams will get a proper introduction with the first issue of the next Invincible Iron Man volume coming out this fall, with Stark officially endorsing her new superhero role.

IRON WOMAN SOUNDS OLD FASHIONED AND IRON MAIDEN LOOKED LIKE A LEGAL NIGHTMARE

Invincible Iron Man writer Brian Michael Bendis spoke to Wired about the choice of name, saying the team had dismissed Iron Woman as "old fashioned". "Iron Maiden looked like a legal nightmare," said Bendis. "And Ironheart, coined by Joe Quesada, after I told him my planned story for Riri, speaks not only to the soul of the character but to the Iron Man franchise as a whole. Tony first put on the armor to save his heart. Riri puts it on for different reasons altogether but still heart-related. When people see her story, you’ll be amazed at how simple and brilliant Joe’s suggestion was."

This isn’t the first time a woman or a person of colour is taking on the Iron Man role, the introduction of her character only shows Marvel Universe’s attempt at being more diverse and inclusive. And for those who will miss Tony Stark, he isn’t completely going away; his personality is living on as part of Ironheart. He is reportedly going to form the basis of the new armor’s Artificial Intelligence.

Everything You Need To Know About Gynecomastia Or ‘Man Boobs’ image

Everything You Need To Know About Gynecomastia Or ‘Man Boobs’

Gynecomastia or ‘man boobs’ is a very common condition that occurs in growing boys and much older men. It is signified by a prominent increase in one or both breasts and could be caused by several reasons; some physiological and others pathological. Pathological causes involve an imbalance between the activities of androgens and oestrogens.

Epidemology

  • At least 50% of adolescent boys will experience gynecomastia.
  • It is a common condition thought to be present in a third of men in the course of their life.
  • It is a non-cancerous condition. Breast cancer is detected in only 1% of male breast enlargement.
  • Prevalence of asymptomatic gynaecomastia is reported as 60-90% of neonates, 50-60% of adolescents, and 70% in men aged 50-69.

What Are The Signs?

If the name ‘Man boobs’ is any indication, gynecomastia signs vary from sightings of extra tissues around the nipples or other parts of the breasts. These tissues can be tender or painful. Dimpling of the skin and retraction of the nipple are not typical findings. Milky discharge also isn’t a prominent feature except for individuals with prolactin secreting tumor.

Causes

Oestrogen stimulates breast tissue growth whilst androgens inhibit it. The moment there is an unhealthy imbalance in the ratio of oestrogen to androgens, gynecomastia is around the corner. The ratio can be altered by the action of testosterone or enhanced oestrogen or both and therefore, it may be caused by:

  • Conditions which cause raised oestrogen levels
  • Conditions which cause low testosterone levels
  • Conditions which cause androgen resistance
  • Conditions which cause an increased conversion of androgens to oestrogens.

Gynecomastia arises solely from hormonal imbalance but here are some factors could contribute to this development.

Obesity

When you are overweight, you can’t escape from breast fat but not all of them are due to obesity, so trying to lose weight might not help you. The reason is simple; being overweight can increase your oestrogen levels and cause breast tissues developing.

Puberty

During puberty, hormone levels in teenage boys usually vary. Many teenage boys have some degree of gynecomastia. This is due to the fluctuation in the testosterone level, if the testosterone level drops, oestrogen can cause breast tissues to grow but that usually clears up over time when the hormones become more stable.

Older Age

As boys become men and men become even older men, they produce less testosterone which causes hormonal imbalance and could lead to the development of breast fat. Another contributing factor is the fact that as men get older, they develop more fat because of a less active lifestyle and this can lead to more oestrogen been produced.

This isn’t worth mentioning but for completion, newborn baby boys also experience gynecomastia because oestrogen passes through the placenta from the mother to the baby. This usually clears up within a few weeks.

Other causes include:

  • Infection in the testicles
  • Side effect of medication like anti-ulcer drugs or drugs for heart diseases.
  • Cannabis or anabolic steroids
  • Too much alcohol
  • Kidney failure or liver disease

Treatment

  • Medication to resolve hormonal imbalance
  • For severe cases, surgery is needed to remove excess breast fat.

If you are worried about your breast growth, see your GP. Your GP will tell you everything you need to know (most of which can be found here) and further indigenous treatment options you can’t find on the internet.

10 Awesome Shows To Keep You Busy During The Long Sallah Break image

10 Awesome Shows To Keep You Busy During The Long Sallah Break

One of our favourite holidays is around the corner. Everyone in Nigerian anticipates Sallah. Not just for the two day break we get off our daily routine. Sallah is a time to care and share, and thanks to the benevolence of our muslim brothers, even the Christians can look forward to this time of the year with glee.

Unfortunately because of the constant economical decline and price fluctuation of food stuff, I suspect this Sallah break may not be as extravagant as it used to be in years past.

If you’re alone in the world with no muslim friend to share some of the meaty goodness Sallah has to offer or you just simply don’t feel the need to go out, we have prepared you a TV show all-you-can-eat buffet comprising of some of the best things to see on TV.

BoJack Horseman

Bojack Horseman is a Netflix original that focuses on the life of a humanoid horse – BoJack who is famous for a TV show he did in the 90’s. Drowning in a puddle of self hate and emotional ruins, BoJack is forced to confront his past mistakes one after the other.

The shows starts off like the regular satirical cartoon but slowly turns into this very deep show about a horse whose childhood was a mess and his 15 minutes of fame filled with regrettable decisions and no regard for the next person.

Stranger Things

Another Netflix original, Stranger Things is a must watch for you.

Set in 1983 and filled with popular culture references, Stranger things enters the minds of four or would I say three geeky high school kids considering that one was abducted 15 minutes into the first episode by an alien from an alternate dimension opened by the scientists at Hawkins. This alien drags Will into a different dimension the kids call the “Upside Down” and they are left with trying to find a gate to the other dimension and save their friend who somehow still communicates with his mother Joyce.

Narcos

Yet again, Netflix.

Narcos follows the life of Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar and his ordeal with the Drug Enforcement Agency behind his tails. A definite watch if you love movies like American Gangster.

Silicon Valley

HBO’s Silicon Valley is a pretty lovely show about tech entrepreneurs trying to build a brand in the very dense Valley filled with hugely successful companies modelled after real life organizations. As nerdy as this might sound, it isn’t BBT nerdy and can be enjoyed by tech noobs too.

Lucifer

Lucifer on FOX, I’m sure you’ve seen that somewhere. Lucifer which was a DC Comic book for as long as I can remember has recently been turned into a show with the leading role played by the elegant and charming Tom Ellis.

Lucifer follows the life of Satan in L.A. living undercover with his sidekick Mazikeen and his brother trying to get him back to hell. The second season kicks off in a few days and oh God, how excited I am for this. You can watch the trailer here.

The Preacher

When Seth Rogen decides to direct anything, you can expect weirdness. The Preacher follows the life of a preacher and his search for God in a world inhabited by “holy, hellish, and everything-in-between characters”.

Jesse Custer fulfils his late father’s wish and decides to take over his church but this soon becomes difficult when his body becomes home to a dark and cryptic force.

Rick and Morty

Take away all the unnecessary Pop Culture iterations from your favourite cartoon show. In fact take away all of it and fill it with absolutely anything you think up, mash it up with an incredible plot and science-y things; that is Rick and Morty.

Rick and Morty is a show about genius outlaw Rick Sanchez *burp* who moves into his daughter’s *burp* *burp* home and decides to use their garage as his laboratory. Follow Rick and his grandson Morty as they go on insane, mind bending and time looping adventures. *burp*

Madoff (Miniseries)

Richard Dreyfuss plays the role of Bernie Madoff in an absolute rocker of a 4 episode show. The show shows the rise and fall of Bernie and captures everything about his personal life including his family’s battle with cancer.

Madoff's Ponzi scheme, which had global consequences, is considered the largest financial scam in the history of the U.S. as the former investment adviser stole 50 billion dollars during his time of operation. He is currently locked up and serving a 150 year jail time with no hope of release.

The Get Down

The Get Down is a music-driven drama that documents the emergence of a new art form. Set in the late 1970s, when New York was at the brink of bankruptcy and disco was dying out, the rise of hip-hop is told through the lives, art, music and dance of a group of young people in the South Bronx.

Behind the show is the multi-talented Baz Luhrmann and a team of collaborators -- Oscar-winner Catherine Martin, legendary MC Nas, Grandmaster Flash, Pulitzer-winning playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis, and hip-hop historian Nelson George.

Billions

U.S. Attorney Chuck Rhoades goes after hedge fund king, Bobby "Axe" Axelrod in a battle between two powerful New York figures. The show which is somewhat based on the activities of crusading federal prosecutor of financial crimes in the southern district of New York, is a high intensity drama between two men who try to use their intelligence, resources, power and influence to outsmart each other.

Success: How Old Is “Too Old”? image

Success: How Old Is “Too Old”?

Does success come with a “Best before date”? If so, when exactly am I regarded a lost cause?

Success usually comes quick for those who put themselves in the right position for great things to happen to them. It usually is advisable for you to begin early. By begin early, I mean gather the right skills early enough. It is believed that new languages cannot be learned without an accent once you’re over the age of 16. Whether you believe it or not, the habits we form during our early years go a long way in determining how far we go.

By the age of 10 (1994) Mark Zuckerberg had taught himself how to use a computer, by 11 he developed a program that connected his father’s home and office computers, and later went on to build Facebook in 2004.

Elon Musk however started reading 10 hours daily at the age of 8 and in two years had read everything he considered interesting in his neighbourhood library, by 11 he learned BASIC by completing a 6 month course in 3 days, and by 15 (1986) he decided his life mission was to save humanity.

Once you’re a certain age, you begin to think “Can I still do this? Is this entrepreneur life even for me”? Well, according to the Forbes List, 35 is the most common age to start up a business that would eventually grow into a multi-million dollar company. The future doesn’t look so gloomy now yeah?

While I cannot explain why this is so, I can come up with a theory which suggests that contrary to what we believe, desperation and the sheer need to succeed can indeed inspire you to make some live changing decisions which most times turn out to be good if you just have the courage to believe.

“There is creativity for validation, and there is creativity for survival” Macklemore.

Pardon the hip hop reference but that could just work out as well in the entrepreneurial ecosystem. Creating because you need to and creating because you can are two different things.

People who start companies early enough often do so because they want to and rarely because they need to. Usually they go on to build empires for themselves. On the other hand, late bloomers often have a stronger cause which is the “need” factor. Wanting to do something and needing to do something are two different things because of the level of urgency attached. More often than not, the urgency that comes with age inspires us to do great things we never thought possible during our early years.

Graduating from the university, with a lot of expectations from your parents, you could begin to lose hope when you turn on the TV and see young CEOs doing big things and making huge impacts in the world around.

So what if you’re 27 and you don’t have your life in order just yet? Did you know that ‎Charles Flint founded IBM at 61? A platform which might have had a direct or indirect impact in Zuckerberg’s life. Success is relative but you have to admit, whether you’re a Zuckerberg starting Facebook at 19 or a Flint starting IBM at 61, you’re a success regardless.

Here’s a list of people who founded multi-million dollar companies at a much older age than you are now.

Cher Wang – HTC 39

Masaru Ibuka – Sony 38

Liu Chuanzhi – Lenovo 38

Reid Hoffman – LinkedIn 36

Gordon Moore – Intel 39

There could be several reasons why you’re a late bloomer. It could be that the platform required for you to create your breakthrough business just hasn’t been created yet or the market you’re going to dominate isn’t big enough to be noticed just yet.

Whether you’re a Gordon Moore or a Charles Flint, there’s no reason to feel out of place in this world, keep believing and keep getting better.

The New PlayStation 4 Models Are Simply Gorgeous image

The New PlayStation 4 Models Are Simply Gorgeous

It is expected of Sony to roll out an almost identical, much slimmer version of each PlayStation it puts out. Yesterday at the event in New York, Sony revealed that the slimmer version of the PlaySation 4 will cost you $299 (117,000?) and should be available on the 15th of September in most stores.

In functionality, the newer PlayStation 4 version doesn’t differ much from the previous version but with the new sleek design, it does look a lot compact and more appealing. The major difference comes in shape of the redesigned light bar of the DualShock 4 which is now visible from the front.

Now for the big news, there is going to be an upgraded PS4 console ready to ship November 10. The next generation PlayStation 4 is a huge upgrade on the former with a faster processor, better graphics, and support for 4K resolution. Although the gaming company will still continue production of every other PS4 version, the PlayStation Pro is specially designed for Pro gamers and is powered by an upgraded GPU and comes with a 1TB hard drive. This PlayStation version will feature better graphics for games which will be released for all PlayStation 4 versions. If you’re a Pro gamer, $399 (151,000?) shouldn’t be too much for all of this.

A new firmware update that allows HDR display is coming for all PlayStation 4 users and will be available. The PlayStation Pro will support HDR gaming and video playback but nothing has been said for regular base models. Either way, you'll need a television that supports HDR if you’re going to view the improved images.

No telling when these new consoles are going to hit Nigeria but I presume we should be seeing both by December.

Twitter Now Allows You See When Your Direct Message Has Been Read

I’m all for positive change but Twitter Wyd?

Twitter today announced its new Direct Messages feature. It’s probably not what you think – Twitter is bringing Whatsapp-ian features to its “messages” tab making the Social network more IM than it used to be.

Starting from your next upgrade, you will be able to see when your messages have been read and when your recipient is typing... so say goodbye to those “I’m just seeing this” texts.

Along with this, you will be able to preview website links sent or received during your conversations.

DO THESE CHANGES APPLY ONLY TO GROUP MESSAGES?

We hope so.

While we are all waiting for an “edit tweet” button, twitter is creating more ways to discourage those brave DM plunges.

Here Are 5 New Albums You Should Take Into The Weekend image

Here Are 5 New Albums You Should Take Into The Weekend

I'm going to start from home with this one.

Redemption EP – Burna Boy

I’ve never really been a fan of Burna. Not because I don’t think he’s good enough but because for the clearly abundant talent he’s got, he seems to be taking a hands off approach to his career and that is only a recipe for disaster in this Nigerian industry. Anyway, he recently released an EP which I hope he follows up with an album much later. Redemption is what he titles it and my best track from it? Pree Me

Young as The Morning Old as The Sea – Passenger

There’s no disputing the King of modern day folk rock, Michael David Rosenberg of Passenger as you know him stepped into the limelight after a song (Let He Go) from his 2012 album All The Little Lights became one of the most played songs on the radio. He has since then released 3 studio albums with the most recent of them coming late in September and has since then been the most played album in my library.

Wild World – Bastille

Bastille are a British Indie pop band led by Dan Smith. They started their journey in 2010 but their big break came in 2013 after their hit song Pompeii led the way for what would later become a career changing album in Bad Blood. Since then, the band toured for a while before giving us Wild World early in September.

Farewell, Starlite! – Francis and The Lights

I haven’t known this guy for that long but I made my discovery after I heard a catchy tune from Chance The Rapper’s latest EP Coloring book. The song titled Summer Friends made me look into that melody only to see Francis was the one behind the last few seconds of the song which for me was one of the highlights of the album.

Only recently, he released his first studio album and he named it after himself Francis Farewell Starlite.

22, A Million – Bon Iver

You’re excited too yes? Well we had to wait sooooo long for Justin to release something… Anything even when we’re sure as hell we wouldn’t hear 90% of what he says. Justin Vernon responded with 22, A Million, an album with a barely pronounceable track list and awesome vibes throughout.

“Homeland” Season 6 Trailer, Air Date, News and Updates

We promised to keep you in the loop and we’re keeping our promise. The sixth season of the political thriller, Homeland returns January 15, 2017 and according to Inquisitr, might be the best season yet. It’s hard to top the previous season but the Showtime series is coming back in full gear.

Moving away from Germany and what transpired, the new season is set in New York with Carrie moving to Brooklyn following the events in Berlin. Thankfully, Peter manages to survive and moves to New York to fully recover from the physical and psychological damages he suffered in Berlin… Albeit in a sense, a fresh start. The new Peter is a completely different man from the one we know.

JustJared

Carrie and Saul will continue to have a complicated relationship as Carrie will continue to work outside the CIA (She works for an organization that helps support Muslims who are being discriminated against) while Saul continues to play a more involved role in the CIA.

“There has been a split that they’ve been working on repairing over the course of the last couple of seasons to varying degrees of success. Saul has committed himself even more fully to the agency, and Carrie rejects some fundamental principles of it. That’s very difficult to reconcile, but they are so profoundly bonded. That’s something they’ll never be able to rid themselves of, but she’s matured to a very different place than he has.” Claire Daines on her relationship with Saul.

The sixth season will feature a presidential election with a female president played by Elizabeth Marvel. According to IndieWire, Alex Gansa revealed that the fictional president will not be modeled after any specific elected or running presidential nominee.

Similar to Berlin, Carrie will work with Saul as a rogue agent to help investigate terrorist activities.

“Peter Quinn will be in therapy during Homeland Season 6. One of the reasons Carrie choose to relocate to New York was to be with Quinn. Therefore, their relationship may develop and we are likely to see a lot more of the on/off couple. Quinn will be out of action, but he will also show the audience what happens to causalities of war both physically and psychologically. While Quinn and Carrie bond over their troubled past, it is also a source of conflict between the two government agents.” Inquisitr

Since we are back in the United States, the showrunners also revealed we are likely to run into old faces and characters from earlier seasons.

Westworld Is Gearing Up To Be A Worthy Successor To HBO’s Game Of Thrones image

Westworld Is Gearing Up To Be A Worthy Successor To HBO’s Game Of Thrones

Earlier this year, it became clear HBO are winding down the clock on the Game of Thrones. Ever since that announcement was made, lovers of the fantasy drama created by David Benioff and D. B. Weiss have waited for something special to make an appearance on their Tv screens. For most of us, that wait ended on the 2nd of October when the same network brought to life Westworld: A show based on the 1973 film of the same name, which was written and directed by American novelist Michael Crichton. Westworld is created by Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy, and produced by J. J. Abrams, Jerry Weintraub and Bryan Burk. With Academy award winner Anthony Hopkins leading the cast, it’s no wonder why the show has already been renewed for a second season. But that isn’t where that ends, according to entertainment weekly, the showrunners have as much as 5 years’ worth of materials to keep the show running.

"It wasn’t about getting the first 10 [episodes] done, it was about mapping out what the next 5 or 6 years are going to be, we wanted everything in line so that when the very last episode airs and we have our show finale, five or seven years down the line, we knew how it was going to end the first season." Said James Marsden while explaining why the network halted production for a few weeks.

LIFELIKE ROBOTS DESIGNED TO FEEL AND FUCTION PLAYING PARTS IN LITTLE NARRATIVES

Westworld is a technologically advance western-themed park where visitors pay $40,000 a day to enjoy all the park has to offer; Adventure, sex, mystery, you name it. The park plays home to humanoid robots synthetically generated to look, act, and function as all humans do. They all play different roles in the park as some believe themselves to be actual gunslingers, prostitutes, and outlaws… That is, until the newer builds (Operating systems or layers of codes the humanoid robots are built to run on) are installed on the hosts and the repercussions severe. The robots are built to function and in the case of any programming error or in-park accident, they are wiped clean inside and out leaving no memory of previous lives or builds.

The park is run by Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) and owned by a mysterious company which goes by Delos destination. Robert Ford, the co-creator of the park is more interested in the hosts and how he can get them closer to humanity if possible whereas, Delos’ main concern is the intellectual property being destroyed by the ever-tinkering mind of Ford who plays God in this pulsating show. During the course of this show, the most recurrent questions you will have to answer will be “Just how many hosts are on this show and are they limited to in-park activities? i.e. Are there hosts outside of the park?”

SPOILERS

The latest instalment of the show gave us an insight to how deep that question goes as one of the most human entities on the show was revealed to actually be a host designed to kill at command – giving rise to another question, has Ford created the ultimate build all along? How many times are we expecting this? After all, we also thought Teddy Flood was a guest. With the central idea the show is built upon, this could go on and on.

HBO

But if Bernard is a host, we need this explained...

Or is Ford even more evil than we think?

There was a murder on the last episode… So how to get away with murder will be to create a double for the dead… The dead being Theresa whom Ford earlier confronted but refused to back off. If we’re getting a new Theresa, that will confirm Ford’s comment saying the board has at several times sent people to reprimand him but every time he manages to evade being fired perhaps courtesy of a board member or employee who has been swapped out for a body double.

Bernard having found out he is a host will be a real talking point for the next few episodes. He will be left to confront his morality, existence and loyalty while sourcing information to feed back to his maker. With the show nearing its finale, there have been quite a number of fan theories to suggest the show should have a befitting end.

Let’s also not forget that Maeve is up to something.

Spots.ng Is Making Sure Every Tourist Finds Something He Loves Before Leaving Nigeria image

Spots.ng Is Making Sure Every Tourist Finds Something He Loves Before Leaving Nigeria

From Yankari to Badagry, from Lokoja to Ife. We just about know the popular tourist attractions in Nigeria and the historical significance each represent. But there’s more than just a handful of tourist attractions in Nigeria and in what could be the most significant attempt by the Nigerian tech industry to preserve the history and beauty of Nigeria, CEO of Nigeria’s largest hotel booking platform Mark Essien has now given us a useful tool which enriches our tour experience.

Spots.ng is a product which the pioneers deem fit to “shake up tourism in Nigeria, and redefine travel, discovery and fun.” And we believe so because not only can you find fun spots close to you,you can also check out comprehensive reviews from previous guests, get exact directions for people who aren’t familiar with the environment, and also get a hotel nearby to rest your head… Sound like the complete package? Absolutely.

“With spots.ng, you only need to say where you want to go – a museum or restaurant in Lagos, the Erin Ijesha waterfall, a polo club or nightclubs in Abuja, somewhere in Calabar, and in an instant, you have it; a list of fascinating spots that best fit your query. Also, a comprehensive review that provides you with all the information that you will need such as directions, safety level, age limits (where they exist), and other such details is made available at no cost. Finally, we link you to great hotels nearby that will fit your bill no matter your preferences.”

The idea behind this came as far back as December 2015 when the parent company’s growth team tinkered with ideas to enrich the hotels.ng consumer experience. Already, the platform boasts of over 3,000 fun spots in Nigeria with Lagos having the most interesting spots.

The entire platform was built by a fantastic team that did well enough to earn high praise from their CTO “we were lucky to have a beautiful team that turned the main challenge into the most exciting part of the entire building process.” – You can tell why when you look at the platform’s attention to user experience.

By interesting spots, the platform doesn’t mean just the fancy and expensive, it also means the Nigerian air, and the amazing cheap local food joint.

“We do not want our users to enjoy only the famous tourist attractions, we want them to truly live in the moment, breathe the local air, discover local delights, enjoy local food, and have a more fascinating experience discovering their locations of interest at their own pace and off their own inclination through a platform that prioritizes their safety, and complementary travel and lodging support.”

The whole package boasts of a lot but what easily stands out is the ability to merge the two concepts together… Hotels and other exciting locations, the way the platforms work hand in hand is incredible.
